The Biotin Chronicals - Helping My Nails Grow

As I've mentioned in previous posts, and as you have seen, my nails are not very long at all. This is somewhat tragic if you love nail polish as much as I do. Some colors just look better on longer nail. I have asked several people for advice (including the MUA nail board) and here are the answers I have received:

1) Moisturize More! - This includes cuticles and hands, confirmed by Ji Baek's book.
2) Take your Vitamins! (Specifically Biotin) - MUA nail board members swear by Biotin.
3) Silk wraps on your weak nails
4) Quit wearing polish, those chemicals are hurting you! - Heard this from one person. All other sources have insisted that wearing polish will help protect.
5) Don't use your nails as tools! - my huge downfall. This will take some habit breaking.

Of all the things I have been told, taking Biotin was a last resort for me. But here I am. Another wonderful MUA nail board member informed me that for Biotin to be effective it will take at least 6 months of taking 3000 - 5000 mcgs. So here I go. Let's try Biotin. I'll check in periodically.

One thing to note: multiple sources I've read indicate that Biotin, also known as Vitamin H, also known as a composite of a naturally occurring B vitamin, is water soluble and has no known side effects in large quantities. In other words, it should be safe. But don't take my word for it - ask your doctor (something I should do too).

One thing I have noticed - taking biotin in small doses of 300 mcgs for a week (far less than I need for nail growth) my skin has gotten so much better! Smoother, fewer blemishes, more even color. Wow!
