Quest for My Pretty - Songs That Keep ME Going

I don't believe anyone who says machines at the gym are fun - they are work. What's fun is what you're doing while you're on it. For me that's usually listening to music.

During my sessions at the gym I've discovered that I've been adapting certain strategies while working out. The songs that motivate me often have certain themes. Often those themes are best played at specific times during my workout. Here is a broken down list of the themes I've noticed, what songs I play that fall into those categories, and when I play them. I don't guarantee these songs will work for you, or that you'll even have the same taste in music that I do, but hopefully you'll get some enjoyment out of this, dear reader. I'm having fun analyzing myself!

Here's a sample...

Songs To Start With
  • Animals by Nickleback
  • Mercy by Duffy
  • Faster Kill Pussycat by Paul Oakenfold
  • Foxy, Foxy by Rob Zombie
  • Get In The Ring by Guns 'n' Roses
  • That's Not My Name by The Ting Tings
  • Bulls On Parade by Rage Against The Machine
  • Snakes on a Plane by Cobra Starship
Songs That Keep The Pace
  • Stuck In the Middle With You by Stealers Wheel
  • Whisky In The Jar by Metallica
  • Hey Now Now by Michael Franti and Spearhead
  • Tubthumping by Chumbawamba
  • Flake by Jack Johnson
  • Three Little Birds by Bob Marley
  • Hey Man Nice Shot by Filter
  • Headhunter by Front 242
  • Start The Commotion - The Wiseguys
  • Laid by James
There is a subset to this group - songs I happen to find a little sexy. Femminists will hate these selections by whatever - they appeal to my inner video vamp.
  • Pour Some Sugar On Me - by Def Leppard
  • Ragdoll by Aerosmith
  • Show Me How To Live by Audioslave
  • Beat Me by Custom
  • Paralyzer by Finger Eleven
  • Sex Type Thing by Stone Temple Pilots
  • Short Skirt/Long Jacket by Cake
For Some Unkown Reason These Help - I know, I could kill myself
  • Clumsy by Fergie
  • Candy Man by Christina Aguilera
  • Survivor by Destiny's Child

Songs to Play When I'm Frustrated That I'm Still In the Gym - sometimes these songs can be good starters if I'm frustrated by work when I get into the gym already
  • Party Up by DMX
  • Everything About You by Ugly Kid Jo
  • Momma Said Knock You Out by LL Cool J
  • Epic by Faith No More
  • April 29, 1992 (Miami) by Sublime
  • Jump Around by House of Pain
  • Mein Hearts Brennt by Rammstein
  • Wake Up Call by Maroon 5
Songs to Play in An Emergency - the last 10 minutes or so, repeat if going longer that original time estimate
  • Pump It by the Black Eyed Peas - The number one sing I play when I'm in trouble.
  • Play that Funky Music by Wild Cherry
  • You're Gonna Go Far, Kid by The Offspring
  • Supermassive Black Hole by Muse
  • Renegades of Funk by Rage Against The Machine
  • Intergalactic by The Beastie Boys
  • Santeria by Sublime
  • Freedom 90 by George Michael
  • The Other Side by Aerosmith
I'm always looking for more good music so if you have any suggestions, please feel free to let me know in comments!

Polish of the Day - Milani Totally Cool

I received this from Steph's Closet a while back (I won a Tweet contest I guess) and I hadn't tried it yet. When All Lacquered Up blogged about it earlier this week I thought about the polish again. I had a really bad day on Tuesday and this polish was just the thing to cheer me up. I don't normally go for drugstore polishes, but hey... this one's fun!

The Color: Blue purple with red glitter. Sound familiar? Yeah, I'd put it in the same group with OPI Ink and OPI Russian Navy. But this one has glitter that really is WOW! I am tempted to say that it totally eliminates my need to hang on to Russan Navy. This is really what I wanted from Russian Navy. Someone needs to send a note to OPI and tell them to get a bit more bold.

The Formula: It was a 3 coater for me. You might be able to get away with 2. Be careful, though... it didn't play nicely with my Lippmann Addicted to Speed Top coat (which is why you're viewing my right hand and not my left).

The Wear: I'm chipping already, but I think that has more to do with my peeling nails. Other than that, it's wearing like ARMOR and I love that! Way to surprise me, drug store polish!

The Bottom Line: For so cheap, why not pick it up?

Macys Friends and Family Sale

Now through May 4th Macys is having a Friends and Family Sale. Extra 25% off plus free shipping if you enter code MACYSFF at checkout.

50% off ALL Rescue Beauty Lounge?!?

The Polish Addict is reporting this news - at Rescue Beauty Lounge Tomorrow between 12 PM and 2PM you can get 50% off your order if you order one bath and body product with code Mea Culpa. Holy crappa!

Yeah I have a wish list for RBL. I am definitely going to take advantage of this!

Quest for My Pretty - Weekly Weightloss Report

Once again, another week where I didn't get into the gym. But here's the good news - I went to a wedding this weekend (notorious for rich food, lots of drinks) and still managed to not do so much damage. The secret? Dancing to what the DJ plays. Granted, I think the Muir wedding had a particularly special DJ who seemed to be playing stuff directly from my iPod. But more on that on Friday...

Weight:194 lbs. No Change. Phew!

What I did right this week: Actually dancing at the wedding.

What I want to improve on next week: Get in the gym!!!!! Oh, and start the new goal. My friend who was trying to get me to do 100 by Memorial Day amended it and now we're going to do 100 by June 19th (her last day of classes - she's a teacher). What do you think?

Rescue Beauty Lounge Bath and Body 75% off

Use code "mom" at checkout on Rescue Beauty Lounge and get Bath and Body products at 75% off! Honestly, I don't think these products are worth the price and more than 75% off so it's a good time to stock up if you like them. Offer good through May 10th.

Here are my thoughts on the products.

The Scents
  • The Wild Rosemary Pamplemouse is a very strange smell to have in the bathroom, but it's refreshing. I have it in a body scrub I use in the shower. It's nice.
  • The Citrus Vert is quite... orange/citrus smelling. It's nice if you like that, but not particularly surprising
  • Spiced Floral is by far my favorite of the scents. I don't usually like flower smelling items, but I love this one. It's subtle enough that the floral doesn' t become nauseating.
The Products Themselves - I've only tried three thus far
  • Body Lotion - it's nice. I use it at night. It sinks in a bit better than other lotions I've used in the past. It's a worthwhile purchase at this price, but don't look for anything earth shattering.
  • The Exfoliating Body Wash - this is really mild and tame. I get more exfoliating action from my loofah sponge. But it does make my skin feel quite nice too so I won't knock it too hard
  • Hand Lotion - Sinks in well if you massage it well. Can feel a tad bit thick though. But it's not bad. Again, not an earth shattering product.

Lippmann - Offering Free Party Like A Rockstar Kit with $50 purchase!

Now through April 30th if you place an order from the Lippmann Collection you will receive a free Party Like a Rockstar kit. I highly recommend this kit because it has the super awesome Good Girl Gone Bad polish and the Addicted to Speed Top Coat. They aren't full size, but you'll love them. Normally the kit is $24. I don't believe you need a code for this.

Look - Copperize My Eyes

Not sure what I did to the picture here, but my eyes have never had that color in them Maybe it was just the dreary lighting outside and the flash but those are practically... uh... zombie green?

Not much to this look. This was one of those days where I just reached into my closet where I keep my pigments and pulled one out and said "ok... lets see what I can do with this". It's not dramatic but I'm happy with the results. I like neutral/warm shadows so this was just a comfortable look.

The Breakdown

  • Urban Decay Primer Potion
  • MAC Goldbit Eye Shadow - inner corner, crease
  • MAC Copperized pigment (LE) - All over lid
  • MAC Swimming Eye Shadow - Outer Corner
  • MAC Spiced Chocolate Eye Shadow - Crease. From the Spiced Chocolates Quad
  • MAC Teddy Eye kohl - Liner of course
  • MAC Plushlash Mascara in Plush Black

  • MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NC15
  • MAC Lightscapade Mineralize Skinfinish (LE)
  • MAC Afterdusk blush - I really wish they'd repromote this and make it perminant. It's like Nymphette Lipglass for the cheeks.

  • MAC Prep + Prime Lip
  • MAC Dervish Lip Liner
  • MAC Angeldish lipstick(LE)
  • MAC Of Corset! Lipglass (LE)

The Great Summer Shoe Hunt - Knockoff Wish List

Dear Shoe Fairy,

I have to believe you exist because it's going to take something extra special to satisfy me this summer. Since I can't fit into really nice clothing, I have to settle for fitting into really nice shoes. I'm so glad you sent my lovely Fluevog Audrey's (a.k.a. Jessica Rabbits) to me and the Chinese Laundry "Love Me" shoes (Sierra's Shoes from Dollhouse) but after my heartbreak over the loss of my Nanette Lapore Heartbreakers I'm stumped. Please help me out by creating Knockoffs of the following shoes:

Prada Flat Sandal at Neiman Marcus $330

I really thought it would be easy to find a shoe like this. So simple... But I can't find any metallic blue flat like this (particularly one that doesn't have one of those awful toe straps I can't stand). Yes, I know there's no arch support but wouldn't they just be so gorgeous on the feet?

Miu Miu Sequin Slide at Neiman Marcus $685

I'll admit, I'm probably only interested in this shoe because of the sequins and my steadfastness in NOT buying one of the Rescue Beauty Lounge new glitter polishes. But how cute are these? Jeans, pants... I could see these with either. I'm not much of a skirt/dress wearer at the moment, but maybe there could be something fun to put with these. Fun shoe deserves a fun dress! But I need something way cheaper.

Burberry Crisscross Ankle Wrap Sandal at Neiman Marcus - $695

You know when you see a shoe and say "Wow - that's something special"? Well that's this shoe for me. This was the first summer shoe I lusted after. To be honest, I'm not sure what I like about it. It's super dark blue, the heel is higher than God... but the heel looks like it really means business and there's the corset- like lace up detail in the back. Ok... yeah, that's why I love it so much. It's a bit like Classy Dominatrix Shoes, which I think is sort of funny. If Buffy The Vampire Slayer had these shoes she wouldn't need wooden stakes.

Manolo Blahnik Metalic Sandal at Neiman Marcus - $815

These shoes are LOVE! I never really understood the appeal of Manolos until I saw these. Of course, it's metalic and it's purple. That's a double threat to me! But the price... no. I can not even think of that. I'll admit, though... it's a tie for me which I'd want knockoffs of more: this or the Burberry. But I'll settle for either. Maybe both? Please? I know it's a bit plain, but it's METALLIC PURPLE.

Honestly, Shoe Fairy, it's a toss up - I'd like a really good knock off of either the Burberry or the Manolos the most. I'm sure you have a preference. I can't wait to see the knockoffs, but make them come soon, ok? They will restore my faith in shoe purchases and help me heal from the Heartbreaker heartache.

Oh and if you ever talk to the Polish Fairy, tell her to make Zoya create more polishes like Rea. Thanks!

This post is inspired by reader scorchabeanrmt, with whom I've been chatting about shoes recently.

Polish of the Day: OPI DS Extravagance

This is one of those polishes I consider a breakout star. I had a hard time tracking this one down after I discovered I wanted it. But found it I did. I also almost always get compliments on it when I wear it. That's always fun. Even when my nails are peely and chippy like they are in this picture. Makes me sad to have such a beautiful color be displayed on such inadequate nails. The funny thing is that I don't usually like colors like this.

The Color: Very fuchsia/berry with lots of glitter. Sadly, it's one of the DS series that doesn't have that magical holographic touch. Can you imagine if it did? Wowza!

The Formula: I love the formula of this one because it's practically opaque in one coat. The two coats just makes it deeper.

The Wear: It's partly the condition of my nails, but this was chippy on me. After a day, even my nails that aren't peeling badly have big old peels.

The Bottom Line: Get it.

ok, I think I fixed the previous post

oops! Sorry about that

Funny: Erica the Grand Poobah of Pasta vs. RueLaLa Model

I was browsing the preview for the MaxMara sale on Rue La La (April 24) and was hit with a funny thought - the model they are using looks eerily similar to "Erica, the Grand Poobah of Pasta" from the Glad commercials. The look, to me, is so similar it's hard to focus on the clothing. I know it's just he hair but come on...

I literally had to look for a long while on the internet before I remembered what that commercial was even for because the only thing I remembered was "Meet Erica, Grand Poobah of Pasta, Viceroy of Value, Connoisseur of Cold..." or however it goes. Good Ad because I remember it (and they play it CONSTANTLY), bad ad because I had no idea what the product was.

Now the MaxMara Model on Rue La La...

And again...

She could be smelling cheese, don't you think?

I think maybe that blond hairstyle is ruined for me for life. But there is a similarity, isn't there? Oh well. Hopefully the sale will be good enough so that we all qualify for the title of "Viceroy of Value".

My New Ed Hardy Scarf - So many ways to wear it!

Hey look what showed up at my door last week...

My new scarf from Ideeli by Ed Hardy

Pirate chicks and birds! That's fun right? Yeah, I think it's fun. But do you want to know what was even MORE fun? The pamphlet that came with it on how to wear the scarf! For the scarf-challenged people like me out there - THANK YOU, ED HARDY!

Here's a taste -

Traditional Styles

Some Not-So-Traditional Styles

This was worth the price of the entire scarf package, honestly. Of course I only paid $7 because I had a credit for Sumo's Pour La Victoire purchase a couple weeks back. But still! Very cool! Maybe I can finally learn how to wear one of these things, and not just buy them because I think the fabric/designs are pretty/interesting. There were approximately 14 different ways to wear your Ed Hardy Scarf in this pamphlet. 14 is a lot of styels! Granted, most of them look like variations on the Survivor Buff but whatever works. I'll probably only end up trying a few of them.

Friday Fun: My Designer Education this Week - Issey Miyake

I had heard the name "Issey Miyake" before Gilt's sale this week, but it really didn't mean much to me. When I stumbled into the sale I was surprised that so many of the designs were SO FAR out of my comfort zone in terms of what I see every day and what I own (which isn't much because large-Midwest-me can't fit into anything but the GAP). I mean, I shouldn't be - Dayton isn't exactly a Mecca of Fashion. But it really made me curious about this designer and what made this brand tick so I decided to do a little research by browsing Wikipedia and see what I could learn (yes, I was that desperate to understand).

First eye opener, Issey Miyake is Japanese. Ok, I admit this should have been obvious to me. Call it stress or caffeine withdrawal or a blond moment, I don't care. So we'll move on to the next thing.

A Wikipedia search pulled up information on how Issey Miyake designs are driven by technology, making fabric do things it doesn't normally do, particularly by manipulate it using pleating technology. Pleating? Ok, I know what a pleat is! I can relate to that. But wait... I didn't see any pleats in those designs.... Did I?

I decided to go in for closer look...

Issey Miyake's Metalic Silk Full Skirt at Gilt

eh? Maybe a little closer...

The Detail

Holy frak! They're everywhere! All those little folds are pleats. That's.... a LOT of pleats! And more over, I love the effect! I'll admit, it's partially the color, but still - how cool would that skirt be to own?

According to Wikipedia, Issey Miyake invented his technique in 1993, so it's been around for a while. I attribute my ignorance to... just being ignorant. You can learn about Issey Miyake's pleating process at Pleats Please. There's some babble about creating constructing 2 dimensional objects around a 3 dimensional form- last I checked, fabric WAS actually a 3 dimensional object and NOT a 2 dimensional object because it does have a z axis no matter how thin the fabric is... but the writing sounds pretty and I guess I see the point. I'm taking 3 dimensional too literally I guess.

Now, if you've read that philosophy of about pleats and the Wikipedia entry that talks about Issey Miyake being totally driven by technology and design, and the desire to create structure from cloth then I guess this dress makes a lot more sense:

Issey Miyake Spiril Pleat Tie Up Dress at Gilt

The Back

Wow. That's a whole lotta something! And it's quite pretty. It also makes me want to pull out a canvas and paint her. But it still doesn't change the fact that I think the model looks like she's going to topple over at any minute. After all, her legs are tied together as though she's wrapped in a blanket and about to be tossed over someone's shoulder and carried off on some sort of kidnapping escapade.

Concerning the model herself - I'd really like to see her standing straight - the awkward pose may make this dress look more awkward to me than it actually is. The pose is beautiful from the front but the back is just awkward and... bunchy. For me that would make it unwearable no matter how pretty. And maybe that's the point - to be pretty rather than wearable. But to my uneducated eye it looks like it doesn't really fit her.

Here's another example of me thinking the dress doesn't fit:

Issey Miyake Woven Stripe Wrap Dress at Gilt

This stick figure of a model looks like she's wearng a dress meant for a wwho is my size but two feed taller. We've all seen much more fitted versions of this design. We see them every day. Am I just too conditioned to the fitted versions to see why the loose one would be appealing?

However, I have to admit that responded very favorably toward this...

Issey Miyake Cocoon Jacket at Gilt.

It might just be that color for me. I don't know. I have a friend (who also occasionally reads this blog) who I could totally see rocking the heck out of this jacket. She usually likes items that I find a little scary or strange. I'm terrified of bulk personally, but Scorchabeanrmt could pull this off without batting her pretty little eyelashes. Not sure if she'll like this one (maybe she'll tell us in comments). Admit it - the color is alluring! And how comfortable would it be to fall asleepin it during a meeting/class/movie theatre? It's like taking your comfortor with you.

While not my taste, I can find things I appriciate about Issey Miyake's women's designs. I couldn't say the same thing for the mens desings.

Issey Miyake Distressed Wool Plaid Blazer at Gilt

How did this guy get so much paint on his pajamas?

Look - "Contrast" Too Much of a Contrast Today

Yeah, I bit off more than I could chew with this one. I don't think it was quite a failure - I just think I didn't take as much care as I should have. Reader Sumo declared "I don't like this one" and "There's too much contrast". Ironically, this look was centered around a shadow called "Contrast".

Contrast is one of the scariest eye shadows in my collection. It's right up there with Blue Storm pigment - yes, they look very similar. This is the ONLY thing I know how to do with Contrast, and sadly, I just didn't execute it well here. Lots of fall out - blue eye shadow bits all over my face all day.

There is a story behind this eye - about 4 years ago, I was having my first year anniversary with my husband. We happened to stop by the Dayton Mall, and of course the MAC counter at Macy's. I was just looking around. This WONDERFUL Makeup Artist (who's name is escaping me at the moment - I swear I remember it) decided to take the time to do a look on me. She decided to do a "Contrast Eye". In the end, my husband loved the entire look so much I bought everything.

The Breakdown - So that you may try it and do it BETTER than I did here.

  • Urban Decay Primer Potion
  • MAC Smolder Eye Kohl - draw an outline of the smokey eye you want to achieve with this. Fill it in. This will act as a bit of a base.
  • MAC Crystal Eye Shadow - Put this wherever you didn't color the Smolder on the lid.
  • MAC Contrast Eye Shadow - With your pencil brush, color Contrast all over the areas with smolder. Sort of massage it a bit, because the smolder will spread around. Beware of fall out. Also take the pencil brush and fill in the lower lid.
  • MAC Phloof! Eye Shadow - Brow highlight, inner corner, anywhere you want really.
  • MAC Prussian Eye Liner - Upper and lower lash line.
  • MAC Plushlash Mascara in Plushblack
  • MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NC15
  • Chanel Poudre Douce Powder in Almonde
  • MAC Strada Blush
  • MAC Stray Rose Blush (LE)
  • MAC Dervish Lip Liner
  • MAC JellyBabe Lip Gilee - It's easy to underestimate MAC's Lip Gilees. But man do they ever make lips look juicy! I don't use them often, but occasionally I'll purchase one of the holiday sets.

Look - Winged Liner for the Red Wings/Blue Jackets Game

And big red lips deserve a BIG RED KISS!!!

So the Red Wings played the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight (first round of Stanley Cup Playoffs). My husband allowed me to go with him - I'm bad luck when I watch games on TV but I have a good track record for Playoff games in enemy territory. I enjoyed the game and Nationwide Arena has such a great energy - I just wish it didn't have fans that had to resort to calling me and my husband "Fat Ass Wings Fans" and going into detail about how we need to lose weight. This harassment continued for about 20 minutes, and he waited to do more of it at the exit of the arena. I appreciate playful banter, but it stops when you start personally attacking fans of the other team. I think my husband was close to decking him. Come on - we're all there to enjoy the show. Fans should have fun and respect each other. Anyway, because of that incident I just wanted to get this look posted and done and out of my mind.

Winged liner is a pain! It took me 40 minutes to get a straight line. And big Candy Red Lips are just hard to control (if you look closely you'll see streaks on my face from where gloss got in my hair and the wind blew around). Not fun, but still nice. The winged liner is a technique I want to master - but it's really hard when you can't see yourself in the mirror and have deep-set eyes with big folds hence the 40 minutes on just lines.

The Breakdown

  • Urban Decay Primer Potion
  • MAC Naked Lunch Eye Shadow - all over lid.
  • MAC Sunday Best Eye Shadow - highlight inner corner and brow.
  • MAC Wedge Eye Shadow - outer corner and in crease
  • MAC Mulch Eye Shadow - outer corner blended on top of the Wedge.
  • MAC Penultimate Eyeliner - dude... just check out the winged eyeliner video on
  • MAC StudioFix Fluid in NC15
  • MAC Lightscapade Mineralize SkinFinish (LE)
  • MAC Strada Blush - lay this on thick like a contour if you can
  • MAC Stray Rose Blush (LE) - just warm up the cheeks a bit after the Strada
Lips - Messy Messy Red Candy LIPS!
  • MAC Prep + Prime Lips
  • MAC Cherry Lip Liner
  • MAC Classic Dame Mattene Lipstick
  • Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Reflect #757 - Best red gloss ever!
I think maybe I'll do winged liner every Game Day during the rest of playoffs just to get the practice. What do you think?

More "Pretty" Outside My House

We had some more flowers coming up and I couldn't resist...

And the not-so-pretty...

Let this be a lesson to you: Leave the Dutch Tulips in Amsterdam. Ohio can not sustain their beauty.

The red ones are supposed to be black. The come up every year looking half dead already. The other ones, which are supposed to be bi-colored, never seem to open. Oh well. Maybe you have to smuggle the ones you're not supposed to take over to get good tulips, eh?

Prada vs. Nine West - Is this on purpose?

Well I know the answer is "Of course it is!" but it could still all be in my head. The colors aren't the same, the styles are different... yet one seems to be taking inspiration from the other. I know this happens quite often (that's how fashion gets trickled down to the likes of people like me and you - unless you're one of the lucky ones who can afford Prada). I've just been on The Great Summer Shoe Hunt for a while now, rather intensively, and I'm starting to see things...

Prada Cork Wedge Slide at Neiman Marcus - $395

Too different?

Back to Zappos... I really think they should have called "Explore Zappos" something like "Knockoff Finder" because that's what I'm going to use it for.

Look - A Rose Romance Inspired Look

A Rose Romance collection by MAC will be available at counters starting today. Some places have had it for a little while so far. The Collection went live on the site on Tuesday and I haven't whittled down my order to "reasonable" yet so I have nothing. However I spent a good deal of time looking at their looks on Tuesday. I already have Mutiny Pigment, so I let myself get inspired.

Just to let you know, the colors I used today are very rarely (if ever) used in my collection. I consider Mutiny pigment particularly "Scary" but it really is rather awesome. Before I looked at the A Rose Romance looks I had no idea how to use it. If you like it, I suggest picking it up or splitting it with a few friends if you won't use it often. One pigment goes a LONG way.

The Breakdown

The Eyes
  • Urban Decay Primer Potion
  • MAC Phloof! Eye Shadow - Used on inner corner and highlight
  • MAC Mutiny Pigment- Middle to outer corner. I could have gone darker with this. I probably will next time. Many o the MAC looks seem to use it in conjunction with Delft Paint Pot. I bet that would really make it pop.
  • MAC Swish Eye Shadow - Outer corner into crease. Also under eye. I NEVER touch this shadow. I think I just found a reason for owning it.
  • MAC Steelpoint Technikohl - Line upper and lower lashes
  • MAC Plushlash Mascara in Plushblack
  • MAC Stuido Fix Fluid in NC15
  • MAC Lightscapade MSF (LE)
  • MAC Dollymix Blush - this is another color I use rarely due to the sheer terror of that much pink. But it is truly quite a beautiful blush
  • MAC Prep + Prime Lip
  • MAC Lush-n-Lilac Cremestick (Creamstick?) Liner - if anyone knows the correct time to use "Cream" vs. "Creme" please let me know. I'm totally stumped. "Creme" just sounds a bit hoity toity.
  • MAC Violetta Lipstick
  • MAC Courting Rose Lipglass (LE?)

By the way, I loved this look. I normally shy away from things I consider "cool" and this had an overabundance of them. I'm normally a neutral-warm fan. But I had to do something fun with my eyes since I just got the brows waxed. If you're in the Springboro area and need to get something waxed, go to Reign at Hausfelds. I swear - least painful waxing experience ever! She is super cute and gave me the most unique compliment: "You have perfect arches. I try to draw mine to be like yours." (she was talking about brows).

The Biotin Chronicals - Outlook still bleak

So I figured I'd check on on my nails and their issues. I've been taking Biotin 3000mcgs a day for a month now. Still tons of chipping. So I decided to try a few other things as well.

Sally Hansen Miracle Cure Base Coat - $8.29 at Wallgreens
This product is supposed to build stronger nails in 3 Days. Well, I tried it for two weeks and my nails were still peeling. However it was a nice base coat before Orly Bonder and that combo toegher held my polish on longer with fewer chips than any other I've tried this year.

So I switched base coats again to...

Lippmann Collection Rehydrating Base Coat - $16
I decided to try this after I asked a question on the Lippmann website about dry peeling nails and week peeling nails. Deborah responded to me from her blackberry (assuming it was her) - the answer lead me to believe I have dry peeling nails. Well, her treatment didn't work as well as Sally Hansen Miracle Cure on me. At twice the price, I will not be repurchasing.

So poor chippy/peely me will have to try some other options. :(

Quest For My Pretty - Weekly Weight Loss Update

Well here we are another week! Last week I refused to face the scale. This week I'm going to suck it up. It ain't gonna be pretty! Food consumption has been erratic, leaning toward not good. My gym attendance has been down (and looks to remain low for a while here).

Weight: 194 lbs (+2... well I thought it would be worse after 2 weeks so I guess that's good).

What I Did Right This Week:
I did crack the 100 mile mark since the beginning of my original challenge. So that's 20 miles toward... whatever my next challenge happens to be.

What I Want To Accomplish Next Week: I want to get into the gym 5 times. And I need to improve on food.

The Tickers:

Happy Earth Day!

I thought I would put together a collection of things I've found that cosmetic/fashion companies are doing in honor of Earth Day. This is NOT a complete list, but it's a list!

  • Butter London - First 500 people to log in get a free polish! (I think this is already over, by the way).
  • Bluefly - Extra 10% off everything!
  • Zoya - They extended their exchange program, but you probably already knew that. They are saying the exchange is in honor of Earth Day but we all know they've been doing this exchange since February.
  • Anthropology - Not a promotion, but they decided to donate to Honey Bees in honor of Earth Day. I wrote to them and suggested I'd be more inclined to help them in their cause if on Earth Day they donated a percentage of their profit for that day to the cause as well. But, of course, I haven't heard anything back.

Look - Inspired by My Shirt, believe it or not

This is NOT my face but the image is relevant, and silly all at once:

This is my shirt which inspired me.

Here's my face:

I don't consider the look very successful, but it was sort of fun to try. It also took about twice as long as many of my looks and and still doesn't look right. Actually, it ended up looking pretty darn close to other stuff I've done - which was not my intent. It also tells me it's going to take more than working with colors I don't normally use (green) to get out of my comfort zone.

By the way, The shirt is Romeo & Juliet Couture that I purchased at Saks Off Fifth a while back when Sumo discovered her amazing Jason Wu.

The Breakdown

  • Urban Decay Primer Potion
  • MAC Goldbit Eye Shadow (LE) - inner corner and brow highlight
  • MAC Playful Eye Shadow (LE) - right smack dab in the middle
  • MAC In Living Pink Eye Shadow (LE) - on top of Playful
  • MAC Moss Scape Paint Pot - outer corner and into the crease
  • MAC Swimming Eye Shadow - outer corner and into the crease
  • MAC Illegal Cargo Eye Shadow (LE) - lower lid
  • MAC Reflects Antique Gold Glitter - all over lid (pick it up at pro stores)
  • MAC Steelpoint Technikohl - upper liner only
  • MAC Plushlash Mascara in Plushblack
  • MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NC15
  • MAC Lightscapade Mineralize Skinfinish (LE)
  • MAC Sassed Up Beauty Powder (LE) - nice sparkle on cheeks.
  • MAC Prep + Prime Lips
  • MAC Violetta Lipstick (pick it up at pro stores)
  • MAC All Woman Lipglass (LE) - suggest using Viva Glam 6 Lipglass as a substitute
I'm actually loving this lip combo. The All Woman pink lipstick toned down the Violetta (which I was hoping would be a lot more purple than it was) and turned it into a nice raspberry color. If I were to do this look again, I'd change the eyes entirely.
