Dinner Outfit Take One - Turtle Belt Catastrophe

If I'm going to critique other people's style choices I occasionally have to critique my own, and allow me to be critiqued by you, the reader, as well. So here we go - my recent "Fashion Misstep".

I wore this outfit going out to dinner at the Melting Pot with my husband a few weeks ago. I spent a lot of time on my makeup (the MAC Smokey Eye Tutorial Inspired Look) and very little time on my clothing. This is really easy for me to do because I have very little clothing that actually is "dressy" and fits me.

I chose a skirt I purchased a LONG time ago from J. Jill, a ruffle shirt from Ann Taylor Loft, a belt from Anthropologie, and a pair of open toed shoes from Nine West.

What were my mistakes? If it isn't obvious, let me tell you:

  1. I did not iron my shirt or my skirt. - My collar is twisted and the skirt just looks sad.
  2. I wore a skirt I absolutely hate - when you wear a piece of clothing that you don't like it shows. Take a look at my face.
  3. The belt was unnecessary - I love my turtle belt. Love love love it. But I should have heeded Coco Chanel's advice and taken off the last thing I put on. It would have been much better

It really is a cute belt. But I like it much more with jeans. You don't find quirky belt buckles like this often.

My shoes - I can't say anything bad about them except that they are pink.

The sad thing about all of this is that when I put it on I felt so pretty. Then my husband saw me and frowned. His main objection - the belt. I agree, now that I see the proof in the pictures.

Stay tuned... I have a "Take 2" coming up next. It had it's own issues, but I think it was an improvement.
