Polish - Lippmann Collection's Marquee Moon

You know I've been waiting for this one for a long while. Initial reviews had me really worried. Funky Chunky made me decide not to get Marquee Moon. But the recent 15% off sale mad me change my mind and just go for it.

Thank goodness I had low expectations. The sad thing is, I don't want to give up on this one. I fully intend to send a note to Lippmann Collection and ask them for application advice. But from what Deborah says on her blog I'm not expecting a warm response (or a helpful one). I will report back if I hear anything. But emailing her has been helpful in the past. So who knows.

Color: Reminded me of OPI Rinse Charming (I hope I'm thinking of the right silver) with little hexigon sequins.

: What a nightmare! I put one coat on, and it's not quite enough maybe. Put two on and it destroys the look I entirely. In my opinion, if you can get one good coat on - keep it. And don't do anything else to it. You'll ruin it going back over the previously laid sequins.

Wear: Well, a half hour after taking this picture I had a big old giant chip in my forefinger.

The Bottom Line: I'd feel more comfortable recommending OPI's Rinse Charming and having you lay a bunch of sequins on your nails by hand at this point. But I'm not giving up!

Off to email Ms. Lippmann...

Ulta and OPI's Tiny Tinsels - Amethyst Twist

I picked up OPI's Ulta exclusive set Tiny Tinsels a while back. I'm just getting around to posting about it now.

Nice little set right? Well, truthfully, I only got this set for Amethyst Twist. Want to see it? Here she is!

Yup. A sparkly purple. You know I had to have it. It feels like everyone but me is about the greens right now and truth be told - most greens tend to remind me of hospitals so I avoid them. I'd much rather go for the yummy purples.

Jewel tone purple with raspberry purple sparkle.

As usual, nothing is lasting long on me so I'd say this is normal wear.

A nightmare, but that's mostly due to the mini bottle and brush rather than the formula itself. This one is a three coater easy - if you do thin coats.

Bottom Line

Probably not worth buying the entire set over - just get OPI Ink or Russian Navy, Zoya Yasmeen and you'll be in the ball park. None of those are really like each other, but this Tiny Tinsel is like the bastard child of the three.

Rescue Beauty Lounge is such a TEASE!

Rescue Beauty Lounge just teased the hell out of me. I mean that in the most affectionate way possible. You know I love their polishes (the very few I have). But here I go getting an email from them with the subject line "For VIPs Only - Up to 40% off!" I freaked out and clicked on the email.

My thought process went like this:

1) RBL thinks I'm a VIP??? How did THAT happen? I'm a nobody!
2) 40% off??? I can finally go get all those polishes I want!
3) Open Email...

4) See the following...

5) Oh... it's on their in-store services... I'm in Dayton...
6) Really wish that subject line read "VIPs Only - Up to 40% off In-Store Services"

So disappointing. I would take advantage if I were in the NYC area, but I'm not. Too bad. I wish the lovely Ji Baek would throw us Internet Only customers a little bone too...

Of course I'm atypical in that I think of Rescue Beauty Lounge as an online entity rather than physical store. I'm sure their self-identity as a business is much more based in the in-store boutique.

Zoya Hotlips Heatwave - Wow the pigmentation!

Shut up - I know I'm in need of a lip wax. But I just had to share how pigmented this Zoya Hotlips shade is!

Zoya Hotlips in Heatwave

I absolutely never expect this type of pigmentation out of a gloss!

Incidentally, the Zoya Hotlips are scented/flavored in some fruity concoction which I'm not used to. It's a bit surprising and also a little fun. But I do wonder - does everyone else smell my lips?

Another plus - I did not find this formula to be as sticky as some of the MAC ones can be, but it still had that familiar gloss tackiness to it.

My Cat Swollowed my Beading Needle!

Been meaning to post this for a week.... but I had a rough week at work plus I had to deal with THIS issue.

Recently, I took up a new hobby: Beading. My goal was to be able to learn how to make accessories in a cost-effective manner. Well, cost-effectiveness goes right out the window when your kitty swallows your beading needle and a yard and a half of thread.

That's my wonderful boy Oberon with a beading needle in his belly. I didn't expect him to do this, though I'm hardly surprised as he likes to eat my knitting yarn (only if it's purple) and I have to put that away out of his reach constantly.

Oberon got really REALLY lucky.

While I'll always feel guilty because I left my project out, Oberon should be thankful that as a cat he has nine lives. I think he used up about 5 of them this time - the doctor on call at the emergency clinic was awesome with the fiberoptic scope. She didn't have to cut him open - she just went down the throat and snatched the needle and thread. My regular vet says that is quite a skill to have and was incredibly impressed. Oberon made it out without any extra damage - except for a sore throat from the fiberoptic scope. Awesome.

Next step - see if our cat insurance will actually reimburse us. After all, we purchased it for emergencies like this. If they don't, my "cheap" hobby could end up costing us an extra $400. We're lucky it wasn't $1500 (which it would have been if they'd had to slice him open). Keep your fingers crossed!

Nude Eyes and Funky Lips - A Party Look

I had quite a week last week, career related. I had a bit of celebrating to do. So I threw a party. It gave me a chance to do another Face of the day (no excuse not to really).

I really wanted to do a neutral party eye with a strong lip. I may have chosen the wrong strong lip for this, but it went with my Hello Kitty Hard Rock Cafe shirt from Osaka, so there you go.

Incidentally, I love the MAC Refelects Glitter in Reflects Antique Gold. But it's not worth purchasing a fully container (unless you're a glitter nut). You can pick up a smaller vial (which will last you forever) with the pigment minis MAC is offering for the holidays.

Friends and Family: 30% off Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft

Hello to all my internet friends! I'm sharing with you that Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft are having a Friends and Family sale! 30% off through Nov 17 through Nov. 22 using code: FRIENDS.

If I hadn't just dropped a lot of cash on Banana Republic I might be tempted to go back to Ann Taylor right now. I must admit, my Ann Taylor love is soaring right now because they totally saved me on my trip to Japan. I purchased a suit from Loft (jacket, skirt, and pants) plus several other shirts from both Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft. I may have been a little over dressed, but it sure helped make over my work wardrobe very quickly.

By the way, Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft sometimes have size 16s and 18s, XLs and XXLs online when you can't find them in stores. I have found Ann Taylor Loft to be a little more forgiving size-wise and wear a size 16 in most of their clothing. Ann Taylor Loft really depends on the cut. I can get away with XL shirts, but sometimes am more comfortable in the *gasp* XXL. I encourage all of you are a bit like me and can't quite fit into the Plus size stores, go buy up Ann Taylor - maybe they'll start carrying the larger sizes in their stores, eh?

Quest for My Pretty - Weekly Weight Loss Report

Yes I weighed myself this morning. Several times actually. Scales and me do not get along in the sense that they just aren't correct. The first few times I weighed myself it said 191.8 - which I just don't believe. I finally got it to say "193.0" which is closer to what I believe so I'll go with that.

Very frustrated with scales...

Weight: 193.0 - I blame my weakness for frozen Twix

What I did right this week: Getting sleep. I'm getting sleep.

What I want to improve on next week: Have to get into the gym. It's a must now. And I have to give away this remaining Halloween candy before I can't fit into my jeans anymore.

Goals in Progress

Quest for My Pretty - Weekly Weight Loss Report

Actually, no report today. I forgot to weigh myself last Wednesday, and I forgot to weigh myself today. I just realized it, and I am so sorry.

I will do better next week and remember to log my "progress" (or lack there of).

A bit of a summary though: I think Halloween and wine and friends have sabotaged me. I am powerless against frozen Twix and Snickers, and I've been enjoying far too much Prosecco as a treat after work. Expect the damage report next week.

Happy (Belated) Halloween! My "Office Goth Girl" Makeup

I have had an extremely busy October! As such I really didn't get much of a chance to plan a Halloween costume. This was the first year that my place of employment has ever said "dress up for Halloween". In the past they've done silly things like "Dress from you country of origin" in an effort not to insult people (which I found insulting). I guess they finally realized that seeing the people you work with dress up silly is sort of fun.

Anyway, my last minute decision: Go Goth... Lite (it is still work)

I haven't worn that collar since I was 21. I was a little surprised that I could find it. I was even more surprised that my husband knew exactly where it was stashed.

Word of caution on the gooey black lips - if you have long hair like mine, pull it back! My hair kept getting in my lipstick then wiping across my face creating thin black lines. You can see them if you look closely.

The Breakdown

  • Urban Decay Primer Potion
  • MAC Your Ladyship Pigment (LE) - all over lid
  • MAC In Living Pink Eyeshadow (LE) - Crease
  • MAC Grease Paint Stick in Black (LE) - lower lash line
  • MAC Young Punk Mineralize Eye Shadow (LE) - used wet as upper liner
  • MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NC15
  • MAC Mineralized SkinFinish Natural in Light
  • MAC Strada Blush (Discontinued)
  • MAC Angel Blush (Discontinued)
  • MAC Grease Paint Stick in Black (LE) - used as liner (I have no idea if this is an approved use, so don't follow my example)
  • MAC Black Knight Lipstick (LE) - outer lip area
  • MAC Cyber Lipstick - Inner lip area
  • MAC Clear Lipglass - all over lips
I know, it's not very involved. But it was last minute. Not too terrible for 5 minutes before going out the door in my book.
