Artificial Intelligence? No More Blond Hair

Remember my last haircut? In case you forgot, it looked like this:

Old Blond Haircut

Well, I decided to try going brunette this time. I've been wanting to do it for a while, and as usual I was prompted to do it because of a business meeting. That seems to be the only time I ever end up going to the salon - for work. I wish I could expense this! :)

Anyway, Genny, my wonderful stylist at Hausfeld's Salon and Spa in Springboro Ohio worked her magic again. And let me tell you... it was quite a process...

Step 1: Cover the Platinum Blond with a Filler

(Note: My husband thought they should have stopped here - he liked the color).

As Genny explained it to me - you can't cover blond as light as mine with dark hair dye straight off. It will come out looking ashy, and not vibrant. The solution is to put a filler color in first, something that will tone down the blond and allow the real color to show.

This picture doesn't really capture the full effect. It was Ronald McDonald Orange-Red. Scary dull too. But my husband, the red-head lover, would have wanted it to say. Not that I don't want to have a scary red-orange color some day but that wasn't really the point of this haircut. I was this color for about one hot minute before they began to apply the real color dye.

Step 2: Apply the Dye!

You all know what this is like I'm sure, but the funny thing was, I never expected brunette hair dye to look like this:

That's a little counter intuitive isn't it? Looks like yellow cake batter if you ask me.

Step 3: The Final Product

(note: because my hair was SO blond, it will take at least another dye after this to get it so that I don't have red color showing through).

What do you think? I sort of like it. This was easier than wearing red hair. It just feels comfortable to me. Genny said she was envious of my ability to get away with pretty much any hair color. I guess being pale is good for something after all.
