Quest for My Pretty - Starting a Shakeology Cleanse

I recently got turned on to a meal replacement drink called Shakeology by @xoreds on Twitter (you may also know her as the lovely and talented MAC Sr. Artist Keri B, or @MAC_Keri_B). I've been drinking the shakes as a replacement for breakfast for almost a week. I haven't lost any weight yet (that's ok by me). But since it is an update to my health/weight loss routine I figured I would let you know what I'm doing and check in.

What is Shakeology?
This is all from my understanding. As I said, it's a meal replacement drink. There is a lot more information on their site if you want to know the specifics. But essentially it contains a ton of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, probiotics, and other nutritional supplements health nuts talk about (Flax Seed anyone?). It's goal is to help your nutrition in a way that helps you digest what you need, eliminate what you don't, and hopefully curb cravings and encourage energy and weight loss to boot. Sounds to good to be true. Probably is, but that's why I'm trying it out.

The Chocolate Shakeology Shake
The basic chocolate shake is a scoop of powder, 1 cup of skim milk (soy or rice milk if you prefer), 1 cup of ice). It actually tastes pretty good. I've had other meal replacement shakes before (Slimfast, Alba 77 for those of you from way back when) and this one is so much better tasting than any I have had before. You can mix in peanut butter or banana (there are many other recipes on the site) but for a quick meal I don't mind just the shake.

My Experience So Far
For the first two days on the shake my husband and I were both drinking it, mixing it with honey roasted peanut butter. We both had horrible stomach aches for two days. I will say - I might have had a bit of a stomach bug. I continued to drink it, but ditched the peanut butter. I haven't had a problem since.

Don't ask me about their "Greenberry" flavor - I haven't tried it yet.

The Shakeology Cleanse
So far, the closest thing I think I've done to a cleanse was the prep for a colonoscopy I had when I was 24 or 25 years old (TMI - but it's true). I have always wanted to try a cleanse. I've heard good things and bad things. Shakeology's cleanse claims to help jump start weight loss and your metabolism - rid your system of bad things. We'll see about that because I'm going to try it. This cleanse is only 3 days long and I figure I can quit at any time if it's too horrible.

I will post a log at the end of every day of the cleanse about my progress, how I feel, if I give up, etc. I've never done a cleanse before so I have no idea what to expect. I just knew I wanted to start it AFTER my visit to the GI doctor. He's sure to have something to say about Shakeology. Probably "add more fiber" because that's what he usually says about anything I bring him to check out.

By the way, if you are reading this, that means I've already started Day 1 of the Cleanse. Wish me luck!

Starting Weight: 205.8 lbs - wouldn't it be wonderful to get out of the 200s?

Keri shares information about the Cleanse on a blog. She also has a Facebook Page for the Cleanse this week as well. If you are interested in purchasing Shakeology, Keri can hook you up.

Thank You, Kara
I owe my friend Kara a big thanks. As I was talking to her about this upcoming cleanse she told me something I needed to hear - at work, my food choices are not that bad. I am eating better than I used to overall. I am choosing veggies more often (and saying "no" to fries and onion rings). She sees me for two out of my three meals a day, so that means a lot to get that confirmation (my husband may say something far different seeing me at home). She is absolutely correct when she tells me "We gotta get you back in that gym." That she says "we" means a lot to me too - I am not alone, no matter how skinny and gorgeous Kara is. :)
