Ling Skincare Diary - Week 3

I am week 3 into my Ling Skincare At-Home Daily Facial and Weekly Regimen kit (among other products).

Weekly Facial Thoughts
I have continued doing the weekly facial as instructed. The step that remains an issue for me is the Spotlight Papaya Resurface Peel. In order for the papaya enzymes to be activated you have to give them heat. The instructions in the Weekly Facial say to put a hot damp cloth over your face. I didn't think this did a good enough job. I tried running hot water in my sink and putting a towel over my head to trap steam but that didn't work. I thought of putting my face over a bucket of steaming water on the stove (but my husband decided that was too dangerous and I agreed). So I settled for reapplying the hot towel a few times. I do not recommend doing this - the mask will get no time to harden, making it impossible to actually "peel" off, giving you a lot less exfoliation than you'd get otherwise.

The step that surprised me this week was the Ginseng Therapy Moisture Mask. The first couple of times I've done this facial I rinsed this mask off with tepid water. There didn't seem to be another way to do it. It ends up, you actually CAN peel it off. It's a clear mask so this is hard to imagine. But basically, let it dry, then rub your face and it'll come off in little chunks like the Spotlight Papaya Resurface Peel. Not sure there is any benefit other than it is sort of fun to do, but you can actually do it.

Instant Oxygen Recovery Mask
I tried this mask for the first time this week - twice. One thing that isn't included in the instructions with this mask from what I can read (I don't have a full size product so I don't know what litterateur it comes with) but you can sleep in this mask. So I tried that twice this week. This mask is supposed to "help recover tired skin" and I will say this: the morning after trying this mask my skin looked great. I had a more even skintone. I will talk more about this when I give my final review of the product (such as I can - I only have a few applications).

How's My Skin?
Honestly, I am seriously frustrated with it right now. I have a lot of bumps that aren't zits or true white heads, just blocked pores. I have a few big cystic acne on my chin. My pores are not unclogged yet, but they do appear (to me) to be smaller in size, particularly around my nose area. My skin is looking more smooth, but it's just so clogged. I wish that I had gone to my spa for a proper facial and extractions before beginning this. I have the feeling that beginning this system with unclogged aestheticion treated skin would be an easier route than I have taken by trying to fix it at home. Doing upkeep is easier than trying to manage an overhaul.

Notes from a Pro
I asked a friend of mine who is an aesthetician to have a look at the ingredients list in the products I have been using by Ling. I do not have the knowledge (nor do I care half of the time) to determine by looking at ingredients if something is "good" and "healthy" and "quality". She also said that for the most part it looks like the products will do what they say they will do (cleanser cleanses, right?). She pointed out a few things to me which I had the opportunity to ask my contact at Ling Skincare about. Here's what I learned:
  • Ling Skincare contains some ingredients that are sometimes derived from animals. These ingredients can also be derived from plants. Ling Skincare only uses these ingredients if they are derived from plants, not from animals.
  • Some of the products in Ling Skincare products can be considered toxic in certain quantities. Ling does not used these products in quantities or ways that are considered toxic so you're ok
