New Deborah Lippmann Holiday Polishes Online!

I so wish I could try these in person right now. Deborah Lippmann sent out a message to the masses today announcing two new polishes for the holidays. I'm seeing glittery goodness once again in our collective nail futures! But it comes at a higher price tag. The descriptions in the email that was sent around to the mailing list describe a bit why:

From Deborah Lippman's Website

Today Was A Fairytale
"Today Was A Fairytale is a Virgin Diamond Powder-infused silvery-blue starlight shade with brilliant silver sequins. I created Today Was A Fairytale to provide show-stopping sparkle that fans could see from the audience. Today Was a Fairytale is exclusively for those nights when you're going to bring down the house."
Clue me in - what's Virgin Diamond? Because I'm pretty sure Ms. Lippmann didn't mean the definition I found from the Urban Dictionary via Google. I don't know about you but this one has me drooling just a bit. I love silver-blues and you know I'll violate the rule of only wearing it to "bring down the house". I hope it is a lot like the picture because it almost looks like it should have that denim caste to it. The diamond in it has me remembering the look that Deborah Lippmann showed at the Oscars earlier in the year, but I doubt this is quite as out there, or as expensive.

From Deborah Lippmann's Website

Boom Boom Pow
"Boom Boom Pow is a glamorous, glimmering 24-carat Gold-flecked explosion that was inspired by an editorial shoot that I worked on with Kate Moss. The iconic supermodel was being photographed in the nude dripping in gold jewelry, from bold necklaces to chunky cocktain rings. I wanted to caputre the ultimate opulence of the gold nail being THE accessory in Boom Boom Pow."
As if there was a chance I wouldn't be interested in this just for the name alone! Come on! Of course I would! Gold usually isn't my thing, but the right gold polish is a precious thing to have indeed.

Now the mention of "Virgin Diamond" and "24-carat Gold" has me thinking that Deborah Lippmann is taking a page out of the Chanel play book - I know you remember Gold Fiction (which I do not own). As with the Chanel, along with the precious ingredients comes a higher price tag of $20 a bottle as opposed to $18. Perhaps a reasonable jump instead of Chanel's wopping $30 charge.

Will you be polishing your tips with this bling? The new polishes can be found on Deborah Lippmann's Website.

Battle of the Jeans - We are at a Crossroads and I Need To Choose...

Crossroad Demon with Sam from Supernatural (image via Google Images)
couldn't help myself...
As you may recall, on April 27th I embarked on a "Battle of the Jeans" between Gap and Old Navy. My reasoning was that I always seemed to run through Gap Jeans VERY fast and needed a large-friendly jean alternative. It was suggested to me, that I try Old Navy jeans. So I purchased a pair of Gap and a Pair of Old Navy Jeans at the same time, attempting to record how long it was before one or the other gave out. I kept track of how many times I washed them and how many times they were worn in order to take that into account as well. You can see the progress on the right hand side of this blog...

There is now a problem I had not factored into the Battle of the Jeans. WEIGHT LOSS!

I am no longer a size 16. And I am tired of walking around in jeans with a big flabby butt. And, most importantly, I can now fit into the "Goal" jeans: My Joe's Jeans Honeys in Nadja.

Oh, you need proof do you?

Back when I first brought my goal jeans to your attention, I said I would be wearing these by the end of summer "I promise." That was in may of 2009, so thank goodness I didn't say the end of WHICH summer, right? :)

And here's my big fat (but skinnier) butt in the jeans once more just because I frakking did it, baby!

(Yeah, my husband was taking pictures.)

Anyway, this poses a problem. How am I to continue the Battle of the Jeans? I very obviously can't continue to walk around with a flabby butt when I can fit into my goal jeans so nicely. I have also since purchased a couple of additional pairs of Joe's Jeans from Rue-La-La to fill my jean quota for the time being.  So I put it to a vote:

Your options:
  1. Abandon the Battle of the Jeans - let these jeans be preserved as they are for comparison sake when I finish my weight loss journey and to serve as a reminder of where I never want to be again.
  2. Pass on the Battle of the Jeans to another blogger out there willing to take it up (requirements: you continue doing what I've done and keep us updated here - and you have to fit into a size 16).
  3. Donate the jeans to Good Will or some other donation place and forget the whole thing.
  4. Continue wearing the flabby jeans as much as I can regardless of how nice my booty looks in the new jeans.
  5. Start over with a new pair of Gap and a new pair of Old Navy (adding Joe's Jeans) and again with the possibility I will shrink out of them before they die.
  6. Something I haven't thought of... tell me in comments.
 What should I do readers?

Quest for My Pretty - Weekly Weight Loss Report

I am having a great time right now... SHOPPING! I've lost enough weight that I pretty much have to get a new wardrobe to get me through the next few months. My husband reluctantly agrees, but is upset that I'll have to go through a shopping binge again in a few months time.

The entire week I've been thinking "oh no... this is the week that I'm going to gain." I know it's coming. How could it not? I'm lifting heavier weights, my "munchies" are becoming less controllable than they used to be. Hopefully that means good things for my metabolism, but it's still problematic when you end up having a little too much wine and eating a ton of pistachios. So I am being truthful when I say this: If I gain this week, I deserve it. If I lose, I am lucky. And who knows what will happen since I'm weight lifting and adding muscle by supposedly losing fat.

Weight: 173.1 lbs (-0.9)
I call that maintaining. I'm happy to take that right now. Can't lose big every week and as I said, I don't deserve it this week.

What Went Right This Week
  • I am in my "Goal" jeans  - my Joe's Jeans Honeys are being put to use. More on that later in a separate post.
  • I am challenging myself more with my weight lifting.
What My Husband Did Right This Week
  • HUGE shout out to Mike for going on a 50 mile bike ride with our neighbor Rob. He needs to catch up if we're going to pull off our Halloween costume that he decided we are doing.
What to Focus on For Next Week
I need to understand why I'm tempted to snack more. I need to balance out my eating a bit too. I'm saving too many of my calories for the end of the day, and I would do better to eat smaller portions more often. I know this, but it takes a lot of work and education (for me and my husband) to do this. Any tips?

Overstock.com: A Discount Code For You, My Lovely Readers

I was contacted by a marketing representative asking me if I was interested in doing a post about Overstock.com in return for a 10% off code for my readers. Well, I've never used Overstock.com and I did not want to recommend any site that personally have never used unless I had it on good authority that it was ok. So I asked around and a few of you told me about your experiences - All good from what I've heard! That's good enough for me to say "yes" to a post in order to get you a discount!

What is Overstock.com?
I remember browsing Overstock.com occasionally via adds off of MSN.com back before I made Google my homepage of choice in my browser. They would always have a few little items on sale that peaked my interest. Usually these were discounted designer items that I might choose, but wasn't too sure about. I always hesitated, though, because the presentation of the site and the images on it made it look a little sketchy to me. But I guess not all websites can be masterpieces, right?

Here's How Overstock.com Describes Themselves (per their About Page)
"Overstock.com is an online retailer offering a wide variety of high-quality, brand-name merchandise at discount prices, including bedding, home decor, appliances, watches, jewelry, electronics, sporting goods, clothing and shoes. We give customers an opportunity to shop for bargains conveniently, while offering manufacturers, distributors and other retailers an alternative sales channel for liquidating their inventory."
I've been browsing the site and I found a few items I wouldn't mind using this code on, just to get you thinking. My first two selections are from Women's Dresses.

Nine West Studded Twill Cap Sleeve Dress - $53.99

MICHAEL Michael Kors Women's Sleeveless Dress - $71.99

Kelsi Dagger Women's 'Iona' Knne-high Scrunch Boots - $107.99
View Overstock.com's Women's Shoes In General
Can you tell I'm targeting things that would look good as I'm (hopefully) shrinking in size?

Pretty In Dayton Discount Code: 121728
I have been told this code will NOT expire. Use it whenever you want on whatever you want. So knock yourselves out!

Disclosure
All the ideas and opinions expressed are my own. No monetary compensation was received for doing this post, however, I was provided with a discount code.

Review: Renée Rouleau's Anti-Cyst Treatment is a Serious Skin Saver!

I first purchased Renée Rouleau's Anti-Cyst Treatment on a whim when Temptalia posted a code a few weeks back.  Without that little percentage off I never would have taken the plunge. Do you have any idea how many acne treatments I've tried and been disapointed in? Let alone treatments that are supposed to work on cystic acne?

Image from Renee Rouleau's Website
What is Cystic Acne?
You know it if you've had one. That "underground" painful bump that no matter how much you squeeze (and no, you shouldn't squeeze) you can't seem to make it better. It's just big, red, painful. Usually around your chin, or during Softball season right in the middle of the forehead for me. Or sometimes, alongside my nose. I've been plagued recently.

What the Website Says
"Anti Cyst Treatment by Renée Rouleau is a unique problem skin treatment to heal and reduce cystic acne blemishes that develop deep within the skin and can linger for weeks. This non-drying gel is specifically formulated for hard, sore, "underground" cystic acne blemishes by dissolving and digesting the bacteria and infection deep within the skin for a quick recovery. This can also be used several times a week to problem areas to prevent breakout activity.
This formula does not contain artificial fragrance and is safe for sensitive skin. The result? Beautiful skin by Renée Rouleau.
Key Ingredients
Ethyl Lactate-decreases bacteria, reduces inflammation, Lactic Acid-helps dissolve cells blocking the pore as well as purifying within the pore, Carboxymethyl Cellulose-acts as a delivery system to carry action ingredients deep within the skin where cysts are present."
Texture and Application
Clear liquid that soaks into the skin quickly. I have worn it under masks, under makeup, by itself. It dries clear so no one ever has to know you're wearing it. That is a huge plus!

Smell
It's got that "I'm going to do something medicine-like" smell to it and I'm ok with that.

Packaging
The tiny pump can be quite powerful so be careful not to dispense too much. You don't want to waist this stuff. Of course, if you do get too much out just put it on your face in the problem areas.

Cost
$38.50 for 0.5 oz and worth every penny in my opinion. Yes, I think it's expensive. And yeah, it's that tiny.

My Experience
I started applying the Anti-Cyst treatment as soon as I received it. I had several on my face that just hadn't been going away. You can see them in my Boscia Illuminating Black Mask Review. Some of my cysts began to form white heads after one application (which probably means they weren't true cysts). Others started to fade away after 2 days. Well, at least the pain was gone after two days. The bumps remained a little while longer. Where I didn't pick at my horrible cystic zits my skin healed fine. Where I was bad I have a bad reminder.

Now I will say this: If you do over use it, or are using any other drying products (like Tazorac for example or a Retin-A product) you might experience flaking. But it was nothing on the scale of any other acne treatment I have tried and totally curable with a little exfoliation. This product will not strip you raw!

Incidentally, the areas that I apply to regularly (my problem areas like my chin) have not had nearly the amount of Cystic Acne I was experiencing before I began applying this regularly to the area. Thank you Renée Rouleau!

Bottom Line
Yes, it's pricey. But if you're really looking something to help this particular acne type then go for it. By the way, it also helps out other acne, I've realized. I will repurchase, even though I don't like the price.

By the way, Renée Rouleau has an awesome Twitter presence! I suggest you follow the company. The website is pretty great too - lots of helpful tips and product suggestions by skin type.

Drug Store Love: Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain + Balm in Twilight

Revlon Lip Stain  + Balm in Twilight
I don't usually pick up items from the Drug Store because I find that I am dissappointed in more instances than I care to count. Also, drug store prices seem to be catching up to your standard department store brands in some instances (something I find disturbing). But here is one of the rare instances where I was pleased: Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain + Blam.

Now I know you've probably seen the rediculous commercial with Jessica Biel in a meadow asking if you've been "bitten". If you have, then you'll totally understand why the shade I chose was "Twilight". Bitten... Meadow... Twilight... get it?

Texture
Once it's on your lips you won't feel it. The balm also makes it feel more natural, as my lips tend to dry a bit when putting on a stain.

Application
Color wherever you want - it's easy. It can look a little streaky by itself, as you can see in my picture. But I have experienced that with nearly every lip stain I've ever tried. It stains fast, so work precisely and quickly!

Wear
When I wear mine I'm satisfied at least through mid afternoon, which is more than enough for me. I recommend finding one close to the color of your lips and to wear it under lipstick or with the balm by itself.

Cost
I think mine was $8.99 at CVS.

Bottom Line
Totally worth it when you compare it to the cost of MAC Prologwear Lip Stain Markers. The only downside is that Revlon's color range seemed pretty narrow with a lot of similar shades.

I picked up two - I don't remember the other one because it looked nearly identical to me as Twilight.

Stila Frinds and Family Sale!

For the next 3 days at Stila Cosmetics you can get 20% off with the Friends and Family code: FRIEND2010.

You know I'm not a big fan of Stila - also don't dislike them. I just tend to find what I want elsewhere. That being said, what I have used from them has been great. And Everyone needs Stila Kitten Eyeshadow at least.

Bring Plus SIze Fashion to Target! Calling Your Attention to a Petition

I was going through my Google Reader feed today when I came across this post on StyleIt. In it Sarah Conely (who's "On the Plus Side" articles I ADORE) reaches out to her readers in an effort to get them to sign a petition to Target to bring Plus Size fashion designers to their stores the way they've brought other high end designers to the regular clothing line. I think this is a FABULOUS idea!

The petition reads:

To: Target Corporation
Dear Target, Each season, you skillfully and beautifully execute exclusive designer collaborations and partnerships with leading fashion designers. As plus size women, we are oft neglected, overlooked and always sized out of your collections.

Why?
We have money to spend as much as our straight sized sisters do. We love to look just as fabulous as the other Fashionistas, yet you neglect to even think of us in the equation. We fawn over the Zac Posen for Target, and strategically finagle through the cuts that could pass on our curves; salaciously we look as each fantastic and highly coveted collaboration passes us along- due to you ignoring our thirst and hunger for fashion.

Why?
Therefore, I, Marie Denee of The Curvy Fashionista, Patrice of Afrobella, and Sarah of Style It Online have come together with our followers and the fa(t)shionistas within the plus size community to request, demand, and call for an inclusion of and/or special designer collaborations for the plus size fa(t)shionistas.
Sincerely, The Undersigned
I am proud to say I was number 1070 to sign this petition. Have you signed it? Will you sign it? I hope you do!

Giveaway! Gingerkitty Designs Jewelry - Making Your Favorite Polish Shades Last

Oh boy do I have a treat for you nail polish lovers! (Giveaway at the tail end of this post).

An Early Gingerkitty Design
(shes' come a long way!)
Over the past month or so I've been working something out with the lovely Tracey of Gingerkitty Designs. I keep calling her "Glitterkitty" because of the gorgeous sparkly designs she creates! So forgive me if I err in this post. I remember back many moons ago on the MUA nail board when Tracey began her endeavor to capture forever the gorgeousness of some of her favorite polishes to wear as jewelry. For many of us polish lovers this was a bit of a dream come true. For me, personally, I thought it was a lovely way to preserve the gorgeousness of those "Hard to Finds". Could you imagine - a charm bracelet with you 10 favs, or something of that nature? How awesome!

Gingerkitty Designs In the Press
Since those days, Gingerkitty Designs has exploded into quite a well known little business. You've seen many pieces about her I'm sure on many blogs (here's an article by Scrangie). You also may have seen this Inspirationail Piece.

Tracey's pieces have been featured in the August Issue of Nails Magazine (ALU had a lovely little write up on that).  She also recently had some pieces worn during New York Fashion Week. If you followed Gingerkitty Designs on Twitter (@gingerkittyd) then you know how over-the-moon Tracey was about that development. And those of us who remember the birth of enameled nail lacquer jewelry were excited for her!

Example of NFU-Oh Rings
(mine is purple)
Ordering from Gingerkitty Designs
Now if you're like me, you've admired Tracey's designs for a long time but have put off ordering for a variety of reasons. Let me tell you why should put those fears to rest:
  • Each piece is crafted so that YOU will love it. Tracey will work with you on the design and she is very accommodating.
  • If you're worried about materials, don't be. Tracey uses sterling silver plated and takes great care to make sure her customers get what they pay for.
  • If you're worried about the price, you really DO get something that has good quality materials and a lot of hard work (and heart) has gone into. Seriously. The price point was always my hang up but once I realized how hard Tracey worked to please her customer my fears melted away. That and she seduced me with an NFU-Oh ring that I HAD to have. :)
I had the opportunity to ask Tracey a few questions about herself and her business:

What Tracey Would Like to Tell You About Her Business:
"It is the only place "where nail polish turns into jewelry".  My goal would be to design jewelry full time!  I have so many ideas but not enough time to work on them all.
I have always loved anything related to nail polish and this is what put me on the path to creating this line of jewelry.
I love input and comments from people that share my love for nail polish!  I love when people say, "Tracey, have you ever tried this combo of colors? or "I do not wear rings, how about a bracelet?" (which I will have in my store soon)!
I love chatting with my customers on twitter or by email and I love to hear new ideas from them.  I welcome all comments about my work, what they would like to see in future, etc.  Feedback gives me great insight into what a customer would love to see from me"
What Tracey Would Like You to know about herself:
"My mother is a breast cancer survivor and I get my drive from her.  She is an absolutely amazing women and after I proudly watched her kick breast cancer in the ass, I know that anything in life is possible, you just have to fight for it.

I have been happily married for 12 years and am the proud mother of two wonderful boys, Ryan (10) and Dylan (7). My family is my first priority, if I am twittering with you...most likely I am sitting on a soccer or baseball field cheering for one of my sons while doing it.

My day job is working as a financial controller in the manufacturing field and I design my jewelry at night (I am a night owl and always have been). "

What About Mistakes? (What I wanted to know about Gingerkitty Designs)
"It made me laugh when you asked because the answer was "OMG...definitely!"
To name just a few......
~ I have made some pieces with hideous color combinations
~ water marbled on the wrong side of the glass
~ as with your piece, used acetone nail polish remover on an acrylic piece and "eaten" away at the finish.
~ made a beautiful piece and while moving it to the drying rack - dropped it!  (this one breaks my heart when it happens)
and the list goes on and on...."

Example Using CND Effects
What's new from Gingerkitty Designs? Water Marbling!!!
Tracey's designs have gone from basic to being quite dramatic and artistic. She has discovered a "water marbling" technique to create some very interesting and unique pieces. You need to see what she's doing now with CND Effects because it has brought a whole new dimension to her work. Here's what she had to say about the process:
"I am constantly trying to improve and use different processes while making my nail polish jewelry.  After seeing many different version of water marbling techniques on nails, I decide one day to try it in my jewelry.  It was a complete disaster at first LOL!  I ended up with nail polish all over me and a very ugly piece of jewelry.

This technique takes alot of practice and I had to change the way it is done to adapt it into  jewelry design.  The result....AMAZING!  I love building colors and how certain colors make other just "pop" out.   I enjoy mixing glitters, holos and other colors into a beautiful design."
Which of course, brings us to the giveaway!

Giveaway!
As I mentioned, Tracey and I have been cooking up this giveaway for a while. She and I got into a conversation about what I would like to have for a giveaway and of course I wanted a Hard to Find polish. But I couldn't decide on OPI La Bohem or China Glaze Moonpool (two of my most favorite polishes ever). Tracey immediately ran with the idea and through a stroke of genius created a design incorporating both Hard to Finds:

NARS Strawberry Fields Lipgloss

When I was purchasing my Boscia Luminizing Black Mask from Sephora I decided to treat myself to something frivolous, namely NARS Strawberry Fields Lipgloss. My first NARS Lipgloss!

On Bare Lips - No Liner

Pigmentation
As you can see, this particular lipgloss is quite opaque.

Texture
I didn't find this gloss to be particularly sticky. Just creamy.

Color
The frosted packaging sort of disguises the color a bit, and does it a bit of a disservice. This color really is quite a bright berry!

Verdict
For the price tag, this is a pretty good gloss to pick up if you like the color.

I purchased NARS Strawberry Fields lipgloss from Sephora for $24.

Rescue Beauty Lounge - The Housewives of Tudor Collection

I am so very glad these polishes finally arrived on my doorstep! It feels like ages ago that I pre-ordered...

Image from RescueBeauty.com
This collection, obviously inspired by several  famous Tudors, was quite a treat to swatch each polish. Each color is unique in my collection, though several have similarities (and I'll talk about those individually. But this collection also gave me the opportunity to do a little bit of research as well, which is always fun.

Application
Each polish was two coats, though these polishes are VERY pigmented. As I expect of Rescue Beauty Lounge, application was easy and smooth.

Wear
I swatched these two at a time and wore them for a day (or two). I have normal wear, for me. They were applied over Qtica Nail Growth Stimulator and topped with Seche Vite. On normal people, I expect your wear to be exceptional.

Colors
In chronological order, of course...

Catherine of Aragon
Image from Google Images

Catherine
Named after Catherine of Aragon, the first wife of Henry VIII. As you probably know, she was dismissed after Henry's infatuation with Anne. She also happened to be the mother of Mary. This color is a deep rich purple brown with complex shimmer. The color almost comes off looking like a stone finish, the way the little flex of shimmer glitter in the sun in a relatively flat base. The shimmer consists of red and green-blue particles from what I can see. I had really great wear with this polish, except where my nail was weak.

Anne Boleyn
Image from Google Images
Anne
Of course, named after Anne Bolelyn. This infamous Tudor woman from what I remember is the one blamed for the split between England and the Catholic Church, as Henry VIII had to become Protestant in order to be split from Catherine. She was also the mother of Elizabeth I. I  must admit I was a bit enamored of the story "The Other Boleyn Girl" and tend to see Anne as a bit of a psycho as a result. My history obviously comes from popular culture. :)

This hotly anticipated color is a deep earthy green that borders a little on a brown-green. Again it has the same type of shimmer to it, red, greens and golds come out in this color. It also has almost the appearance of stone.

In bright sunlight
Out of sun, a little more true to color.

Sephora by OPI Run with it (Left), Jane by Rescue Beauty Lounge (right)

Jane Seymour

Jane
This color was named for Jane Seymour. No, not the one that's still alive today, the third wife of Henry VIII and mother of Edward, who later became king.

This color was the one I was anticipating the most because I promised Michelle from All Lacquered Up I would compare it with  Sephora by OPI Run With It. Also because Jane happens to be my middle name. There is gold shimmer in this polish, and it is a warmer putty color than Run with It. But on the nail it really looks much more like a cream than a polish with glitter. It's a very nice neutral if you're looking for one.

Catherine Howard
Image from Google Images
Catherine H.
Named after Catherine Howard, she was Henry's Fifth Wife. She did not bare Henry any children. And honestly I don't know anything about her at all.

This color is quite beautiful, but it is not for me. It is a medium blue with that same nearly stone-like finish of Anne and Catherine. It has red-pink and blue-green shimmer in it. I saw it and immediately thought of my blue-loving friend Kara, who often wears a dress that nearly matches this polish. Not that it means anything to you, but a personal tidbit to share.

Bottom Line
All of these polishes are of exceptional quality so I recommend them if you are willing to pay the high price. My favorites in order of preference are Jane, Anne, Catherine, and Catherine H. I think this collection was worth the wait.

I really wish Rescue Beauty Lounge had done ALL the wives of Henry VIII. Wouldn't that have been fun?

These polishes are available on the Rescue Beauty Lounge website for $18 each.
