Pretty in Dayton - Weekly Weight Loss Update

This was the week I've been weighting for! Reader Amber passed onto me an article about the "Wooshing" of Fat and I had the feeling somewhere along this week my cells let go of a bunch of water and/or fat. I really felt successful this week. I think feeling like that also pushed me further in my workouts.

In the interest of focusing more attention to my diet, I read a book this week called Why We Get Fat: And What To Do About It by Gary Taubes.  Basically, that means I've been learning a lot about sugar, carbohydrates, and how hormones tell your body to let go of fat (or not). I will be writing up my thoughts on this book in another post, but if you're at all interested in this topic I suggest you check it out.

On to the report!

Weight: 156.0 lbs (-2.8 lbs)

A note to the number 156: Hello 156! I've seen you before... But I am more than happy to see you again! I just hope it's a short acquaintance and that I never have to see you again... in a favorable way (I like you much better than 157).

Next Week...
I will be finishing TurboFire this week. You will also be getting a review of that from me. I think in the mean time, I'm going to add a bit of ChaLEAN Extreme back into my workout routine because I want to get back to focusing on muscle maintenance and building, hopefully some more toning.

Reflecting a bit... this past week I've noticed the tone in my arms increasing quite a bit but more so my legs, particularly the area in the thighs. I'm loving what I'm seeing. I think it might be due to my increased effort at the plyometrics (jumping) portion of TurboFire. I purchased a mini skirt from Hautelook, but it arrived with a defective zipper. It was very cool, had patchwork (non-shiny) sequins all over it. Quite interesting. I'm very dissapointed because I wanted to show my new legs off!

skyn ICELAND on Hautelook Today!

I only mention this because once upon a time I had a lip conditioner by them and it was awesome. But too pricey for purchase on a regular basis.

If you are interested and are not a member of Hautelook, please feel free to use my invite link!

Rescue Beauty Lounge Iconoclast - Late to the Party, but Killing The Competition!

Definition of "Iconoclast" according to Merriam-Webster:
  1. a person who destroys religious images or opposes their veneration.
  2. a person who attacks settled beliefs or institutions."
What? I was curious! Come on. I know there are a few others of you out there who didn't know the word either.

You know this already,  but I have a hard time doing gorgeous polishes justice, let alone gorgeous black polishes...

Usually my cuticles are at fault, and I know you can see that in the above picture. Really, I did try VERY hard on this!
Dude.. You can actually SEE the Shimmer!

I'll be honest - I feel like Rescue Beauty Lounge is a little behind the trend on this one. Almost everyone has a black polish with shimmer now. That being said, out of all the black with shimmers I own I think this is my favorite. The way it handles shimmer and depth of black color is so amazing.

I don't think there's any doubt in my mind which icon of the nail world Iconoclast is going after. What a perfect name for this polish!

Deepest black packed with multicolor shimmer particles. Zoya Raven and Chanel Black Satin only have silver shimmer so this one stands out in that way. I also know I can NEVER see the shimmer in Black Satin, and see it in Raven only occasionally. On Iconoclast, not only is this base SUPA-BLACK but the shimmer does show up in certain lighting situations to the naked eye without a flashbulb and a zoom feature. I am impressed! I so wish this had come out before I purchased Chanel Black Satin... Seriously. I wouldn't have looked twice.

Only two coats for this one, I used over Qtica Nail Growth Stimulator and topped with Seche Vite.

Well, The pics you see above are the day after which is fantastic for me and black. But I didn't give it a great wear test due to my desire to play with China Glaze Crackle polishes.

Bottom Line
Chanel Black Satin may be an icon, but Iconoclast has freed me from it's sway.

Iconoclast is available for purchase from Rescue Beauty Lounge for $18.

It's up to you if you think it's worth the price compared to an $8 Zoya Raven. If you're a black collector, Iconoclast is a must have.

China Glaze Crackle Polish - I get to play with Broken Hearted, Cracked Concrete and Fault Line!

Back when OPI came out with Black Shatter and I heard about China Glaze's Colored Crackles I got really interested. Now I know you've probably seen these already (unless you're living under a rock) but I finally got around to trying them out. I have to say I quite love them!

Fault Line

Fault Line is a deep purple crackle that has pink micro shimmer. It's the only shimmer out of the ones that I tried. I was vaguely reminded of Flying Dragon, but I just sold that in my blog sale so I couldn't try it over Flying Dragon. Color-wise, this is easily my favorite of the bunch.

Broken Hearted

Barbie Pink cream. I never liked the way this looked in pics I've seen on other blogs but I was surprised at how much this stood out on my tips. I ended up liking this color in the end, in a funky '80s sort of way.

Cracked Concrete

Dark gray cream. If you're looking to add some interest to a flat black mani than this is the color for you! It's understated in a way that is edgy and elegant at the same time. If you're interested in crackle but a bit conservative, this might be the one for you.

I used these crackle polishes on a mani that had begun to chip. The base was Qtica Nail Growth Stimulator, two coats of Rescue Beauty Lounge Iconoclast, one coat of Seche Vite. Since China Glaze Crackle polishes have to be applied over dry lacquer I found no reason not to just slap them on top of my decaying Iconoclast. I finished by applying a layer of Seche Vite over them after they cracked as much as I thought they were going to.

For as thick as my application was, I got several great days out of these crackles. I am pleased.

Bottom Line
If you wanted to try colored crackle I recommend these, though the way it cracks doesn't allow as much of the base to show through as I would like. I think they are probably a great way to rescue a botched mani or cover up a mani when you don't want to remove polishes.

Full Disclosure
The products in this review were furnished to me by PR not only for my use but for review. Other than the products mentioned above I will not be compensated in any other way by China Glaze and will provided my honest opinion of the product. I don't sell China Glaze products, nor am I affiliated with China Glaze in any way.

Korto Momolu Fall 2011 - "Just Gotta Be Patient And Keep Knocking Down Obstacles"

When I saw the pictures of Korto Momolu's Fall 2011 collection on a couple weeks back I desperately wanted to write about. But I had no pictures of my own.  A little voice in the back of my mind said "Just email Korto... you never know. She may send you some pics so you can talk about the line on your own blog. After all, she's awesome and very generous (as evidence would show by her donation to PUSH). Just send the note already!" I'm so glad I listened to that nagging little voice because not only did Korto send me some pics she had taken of the line but she also told me about the line.

About the Fall 2011 Collection

Korto was kind enough to share with me what inspired her for this collection..

" was inspired by my happy memories from Liberia. I am going back there this year in may for the first time in 23 years and I wanted to channel happy thoughts. We had a beach property that we visited on weekends and each time we would have to cut down the bushes, trees etc to get there and at some point we could see through the trees as they were being cut down a glimpse of the sand and water. So the colors and textures were big influences for fabrics and silhouettes and just the idea that to get to paradise sometimes you have to go through stuff! and that's how my life has been ... I know it's there because I see it , just gotta be patient and keep knocking down the obstacles."
I love it when I get a chance to hear from a designer what was going through their head when they were cooking up suck lovely frocks! And, knowing the background, one can really look at Korto's collection and see what she is taking about. The prints are fantastic - and knowing the tid bit of info about seeing the ocean and water through the trees you can actually see that come out in the design. The collection is filled billow skirts, and although the fabric color choices are dark I think there's a sense of comfort and the "paradise" Korto mentioned.  Have a look!

You can't tell me us ladies don't enjoy a full length gown with an awesome shape! The dress above is quite dramatic but still has the feel of breezes. I just want to slip it on and twirl a few times, laugh and go find some chunky jewelry to dress it up! Can't you just picture it with some of Korto's colorful jewelry? I absolutely can! This is easily one of my favorites and I didn't see it on Bellanaija's pictures.

When Korto sent me pictures I was excited to see that the set of images contained one of her sequin dresses. When I saw the sequin dresses on Bellanaija I was instantly drawn to the texture of the larger sequin, the deep gray color (I don't know if it's true black and a trick of the light on the runway but it's gorgeous without a doubt). The dress pictured above wasn't my favorite of the sequined dresses, but it is still stunning! I'm not sure if this one walked the runway or not, honestly.

Ok, I love this skirt! I hope that it is affordable because I could see myself picking it up. I also love the top it is paired with in this image (different from the runway pics, which put it with a black top). It certainly shows how versatile this skirt can be. I'm excited about the short length and the volume in this skirt, as well as the print. Can't you just see the sand and water through the overgrown brush in there? I can!
I also have the back for this one...

I'll be honest here - this wasn't one of my favorites. It's too heavy  for my taste. I think it's the sleeves and the long skirt. I imagine you'd have to be a very strong woman to pull this off! On the runway pics, it looks like there is a v-neck that can be opened to reveal a little more skin. I'll admit that it looks much better on a real body with a little style than it does here.

Here's a dress with that same print as the skirt. I like the asymmetry going on here. I wish I could have seen it walk live because I imagine the skirt having some awesome movement. But lets also talk about the bodice. It has a little "Jessica Rabbit" going on, doesn't it? You know who I'd love to see in this? Brandy from Food Vs. Face who looks good in everything I like!
Another piece I get a Victorian vibe from. This time, there's a daring neckline! I think the fabric on this resembles more of sweater, which is pretty cool. Check it out on Bellanaija and let me know what you think because I'm undecided on this. But I do know that personally I can't walk around without a bra and when I look at this dress that's all I think about. What type of bra would you wear with that?
Again, WOW with the print! I love everything about this except possibly the little bit of extra fabric on the left side under the arm. I'm not sure what that looks like exactly and I can't tell from the the images on Bellanaija either.  But this could be a potential WIN dress too. What do you think?

See all the images from Korto Momolu's Fall 2011 presentation at You really do need to check it out. I do not have images of my favorite pieces so click on the link and have a look at the gorgeousness I didn't get to show you!

I'm really digging the prints and the pairing with dark fabric as well as the chunky sequins. I'm not too wild about the long arms with the long dress, but I'm also not the body type that can pull that much fabric off without something to break it up. I hope the skirt I showed you above is affordable - that's one I'm going to have my eye on when this collection becomes available.

Also, don't forget to check out Korto Momolu's Site and follow her on Twitter. She doesn't tweet much, but she will answer tweets occasionally. One time she called me "boo" over Twitter... I was so tickled! Love her!

Note: A big thank you to Korto Momolu who allowed me the use of her photographs.

Coveted Item of the Week: Club Monaco Tess Dress at ShopBop

Every year my husband goes nuts over sundresses. Granted, he and I have very different opinions as to what qualifies as a sundress. He thinks it means "printed" and rather 50's looking. I define it as something with a flowing skirt that I'd wear "in the sun". Not that I go out in the sun much.

With that preface this week's Covet item may have been influenced a bit by the rainy weather outside. When ShopBop sent out an email highlighting Club Monaco's "Spring Classics" there was a dress pictured that instantly caught my eye. I thought "That!!! I so want that!"

Image from ShopBop
Coveted Item - Club Monaco Tess Dress
One thing I love about this spring's color palette is that it is still rather muted. I might even go so far as to say drab. And the Tess dress in Smog is the perfect dress to exemplify this! This cotton and silk dress is strapless, has a perfect looking knee length skirt, and the bodice is quite a bit sexified with the boning of the corset structure exposed. I could wear it with a cardigan over it to work, or by itself on the weekends. It could easily be dressed up or dressed down, no matter the occasion. Best of all, it would take the place of another dress I gave up for the Push Charity Auction.

$198 from ShopBop.

Will I Get It?
Highly unlikely. As I was writing up this post the Size 10 disappeared, followed by the Size 8... and then down to  00. So I doubt I'll ever get this dress. I will need to find another dress to fill my spring Sundress need or go on the hunt for this dress at another store. Or I can look at the downside - it probably wouldn't pack well for traveling.

Darn those email blasts! Especially from ShopBop. The site is so huge and the selection so incredible I rarely just browse through the site. And the second they send an email that catches my eye... it's gone. Guess I have to be faster to the punch. But the price was a bit more than I wanted to spend too. Oh well.

If you have any ideas for me to satisfy my need for a "Sundress" please let me know. I'm serious about trying to find a good one!

China Glaze Summer 2011 - Press Releae Pics and Discussion

I know you've seen the promo pics for this several times over already so I'm going to do what I did earlier this week for another brand and post about my thoughts on this one.

China Glaze Summer 2011 collection: Island Escape.

Island Escape consists of six bright shades. The collection is composed of both shimmers and cremes. Their names and descriptions are as follows:
  • Papaya Punch: Crème based vivid orange.
  • 108 Degrees: Flirtatious berry pink with specks of micro glitter.
  • Senorita Bonita: Passionate purple shimmer with pink micro glitter.
  • Blue Iguana: Bold and daring sparkly blue.
  • Cha Cha Cha: Vivacious shimmer green.
  • Electric Pineapple: High intensity crème based lime green.
When I saw these pictures in my inbox my first thought was "YAY! Brights!" Right now my nails look drab (but definitely not boring). Still I could use some infusion of color in my life. These would qualify. In the past I've usually tried brights once or twice, then given them away or avoided them entirely due to feeling self conscious about them  - or more likely self conscious about my pedi. But I'm going to change that this year! Yes, I hope that I'll be able to rock the bright pedis this year. So Island Escape should fit right in to my collection nicely.

From the pictures I have to say Cha Cha Cha caught my eye first. I hope I'm not the only person who isn't tired of greens. I have a ton of them from last year, but I think many of the ones I hung onto weren't bright. This one looks like fun. Blue Iguana also looks like a blast.

I think this collection will be very well coordinated. Dar I say the words "Nail Art"? I sort of want to make a mani with these and strip all the colors all over the place. Not that I'm good at any of that. But what fun would that be?

At the same time, I do think this collection is a little expected. Just about everyone puts out brighter colors and these colors look like they will be surface of the sun bright! But I will applaud them for making every single color a distinct shade! (*cough* Zoya *cough*) Thank you for variety, China Glaze!

Still, the cold loving person in my mind thinks that in the summer the last place I want to be is a tropical island. I did that for my honeymoon in July a few years ago and the heat was SCORCHING! Give me shade and a Coco Loco right out of the coconut, please!

I am already missing sweaters...

Are you going to take an Island Escape with China Glaze?

Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor - Feburary 27th 1932 - March 23, 2011

Wasn't she beautiful???

Image from Second Hand Shopper Blog
I must admit, when I heard via twitter from @felsull about Elizabeth Taylor's passing my I was a little sad. I know, she hasn't been around too much but she's one of those icons I grew up knowing about. I'll fully admit I never was able to get through Cleopatra, but her version of Katherina in The Taming of the Shrew was one of my favorite "based on a play" movies when I was younger.I watched it over and over when we rented it from Blockbuster while I was reading the play. I thought it was so much fun!

White Diamonds

I think it's the first fragrance commercial I ever remember. I remember Elizabeth Taylor handing a handful of lumpy diamonds to someone one saying "These have always brought me luck" with aristocratic affected English accent and going "Oh dear... that's dreadful" along with "How can costume jewelry be lucky?"  But a part of me will always associate Elizabeth Taylor with full on glamor, which is what I think these commercials were trying to show.Watching the commercial again, it's just so cheesy and campy. But the nostalgia makes is warm and fuzzy, right?

My Most Recent Elizabeth Taylor Memory
"Who's the most beautiful girl in the world?!?"

Yeah, I have to go there... I mean no disrespect, just giving you what I associate with "Elizabeth Taylor". Whenever I hear her name what runs through my head is Charlotte and Harry trying to name "Ms. Dandyridge Brandywine" and Charlotte saying "Who is the prettiest girl in the world?" and the slow dawning of realization on her face as she and Harry say "Elizabeth Taylor!"

Of course, along with giving a beautiful dog that name on a show like Sex and The City means that the dog is going to be subject to several rather ridiculous jokes. Like "Elizabeth Taylor" getting gang banged in the park by a bunch of mutts. I remember thinking "doesn't anyone listen to Bob Barker? Spay a neuter your pets!"

Anyway, please feel free to share your Elizabeth Taylor memories and thoughts below. She will be missed!

Quest for My Pretty - Weekly Weight Loss (GAIN) Report

I knew I would gain this week. I had an incredibly stressful week at work, and I didn't get as many workouts in as I was supposed to. I missed two entire days. That's really bad for me. I did throw a party, I also at out at the Melting Pot... but I don't blame any of my weight gain on that meal. I actually did very well there. It's just how the chips fell this week.

I mentioned this last week, but I'm still questioning: If my original goal had been 135 instead of 150, would I be having as difficult a time as I am now?

Weight: 158.6 lbs (+1 lb).

Yeah... it is what it is right now. I'm not going to beat myself up over a pound gain. For all I know it's water.

Goal for Next Week: Get all the workouts in! I'll need this as a goal. I have a heavy social calendar next week and it may actually mean that I *gasp* have to wake up early and work out!

And a teaser...

I am working on my TurboFire review. I will include this video in the review, but just to give those of you who read this column a little treat of me making a fool of myself, here you go!

butter LONDON - Victoriana

Yay! My first butter LONDON polish! And I'm really glad I got it!

While I really wish I had been able to get All Hail McQueen, Victoriana was totally worth my ULTA purchase. This polish is both gorgeous AND long lasting. Instant love from me!

Blue, teal color with silver glitter particles. The end effect looks almost like foil, though my husband said it looke like car paint put on without removing a previous layer of paint. I could kick him for that.

Over Qtica Nail Growth Stimulator and topped with Seche vite, this took only two coats of color. Smooth, even, and no streaks.

I got more than my usual goal of 2 days wear out of this one.

Bottom Line
A solid win. I can't wait to try more butter LONDON!

Everyday - Potentially an interesting tool for Face of the Day bloggers!

Image from TechCrunch
I saw this article on Tech Crunch today discussing an iPhone app called Everyday, available in the iTunes Store for $1.99. The idea behind this app is to take a picture of yourself every single day, align them, and see the evolution of your face eventually.

Apparently the idea of it comes out of a YouTube video that some guy did taking a picture of himself every day for six years. For the average person this sounds sort of silly and crazy. I bet there are even a few of you going "why would someone ever want to do that???"

Think about it a minute - many beauty bloggers or people on various sites like Spectra and MUA do this EVERYDAY already! If I'm in a makeup mood I tend to take face pics at least 3 days a week. So what would that look like if we bloggers used an app like this? Would it be cool not only to see your face as it evolves over the years but also your makeup looks? Why not?

Have any of you tried Everyday? I'm very tempted to do so. Perhaps it would make an interesting Face of the Day video eventually.

Random Confusion - Judith Leiber Clutches on Rue-la-la = WTF?

Seriously, someone purchased this!

Image from Rue-La-La

I saw this on Rue-la-la today and I'm not sure which shocked me more: The design itself or the "Sold Out" indicator on it. Now, I understand cute bejeweled clutch designs may continue to be all the rage but if you I had just over $2000 to spare I don't think I'd be spending it on this. Then again, there was also this...

Image from Rue-La-La

Yeah, that's sold out too. I think I'll go try to pick my jaw up off the floor now...

If you want to spend time looking at other jaw dropping items with me, you can use my Invite Link to join Rue-la-la. As you know I think it's well worth it and find some amazing deals on there, though not today.

Zoya's Summer Collections - Press Releases Pics Discussion

By now I know you've seen this a million times. But I promised I would release the press information... so I'm going half way here. I'll put up the pics, then I want to talk about each collection. Ok? Besides, I think it's dull just to read regurgitated press releases on every single blog.

Zoya Summertime & Sunshine

Summertime consists of Sooki, Tamsen, Areej, Keiko, Mira, and Breezy.  Creams I can get excited about! I do question, however, the occurrence of Sooki and Tamsen which seem to look very close as reds. Zoya's been doing that lately in their collections and it drives me a bit crazy. I think they have an obsession with getting "the perfect red" for everyone, but in terms of collections I see it as a wasted spot where they could have put a completely different color (like an orange or a yellow). I definitely want the purples at lease. However the True Blood fan in me is excited at seeing a "Sooki".

Sunshine consists of  Reva, Kimmy, Tanzy, Apple, Rica, and Faye. Glitters I think. I can't tell if they are glitters or foils actually, but I think this set might give the Flame collection a run for it's money. I'm looking at Faye as being my star of the collection, but we'll see.Someone commented to me last wee that they thought Rica might be my Princess Leia polish. I don't think it will be, but I am curious. Honestly, Reva's looking pretty hot. And Apple, even if there's only one girl I can think of on the planet named Apple (Gweneth, what were you thinking???).

Zoya Mod Mattes

A limited edition collection consisting of three colors: Pheobe, Lolly and Mitzi. When discussing this collection with a co-worker she asked me "Isn't the matte finish last year?" and I had to give a nod to that criticism. However, these seem like very fresh colors and I can get excited about that. I just hope the wear is more like Zoya's Velvets than the Mattes from previous releases because the Mattes (Posh for example) were just super chippy. It makes me wonder if I would get better results just using a matte top coat on a regular polish. I haven't tried it yet. Based on my dislike of the matte formula in the past, I would probably pass on these until I read a few other reviews on the blogs.

Incidentally, Temptalia has swatches...
And no doubt you know that until March 25th, Zoya is having a Bogo promo for account holders. Just log in, go to My Account, and check your promotions (the link on the left) and see your code.

What's your opinion?

Will you be taking a chance on the Mod Mattes? What colors are you getting from the Summer and Sunshine collections if any? I'm curious to hear.

Cult Nails - Living Water

Actually, I found living water to be "dead" without a glossy top coat, but I'll get to that. Here are some pictures of this gorgeous color...

This polish is getting rave reviews from everyone... but me. But I'm not going to give it a bad one either. It's not that I don't think it's a good polish - the concept is very good. And overall Cult Nail's concepts have ALL been very good. But the Living Water formula just wasn't there for me. I wanted more vibrancy, more shine. I've seen it in some photos on other blogs. But this color on my nails just fell flat.

Deep navy base with green and blue glitter particles.

Here's where I had issues. I put on my usual Qtical Nail Growth Stimulator, then put on one coat. The color just got sucked up into the nail, drying with this dull flat finish. Coat two went on, and made it deeper but I still had that same flat, nearly matte feeling. I put on two coats of Seche Vite over this one, and still had texture that I didn't want. No, I could not achieve the glossy finish I wanted with this polish.

The redeeming quality! Other than tip wear, this is again another "Wears Like Iron" polish, which I am beginning to think of as a defining trait of Cult Nails. They should cling to this trait because it will carry them far...

Bottom Line
I think Cult Nails may have bit off a little more than they can handle right now being new. If you purchase this one, make sure your top coat can do the heavy lifting to make this glossy and spectacular. Those of you who never use top coats (yes, I know there are some of you out there) - don't bother.

Let the flaming come... I know it will. But this polish was flat on me. How can I not say it?

(I still love you Cult Nails and R3Daily!!!)

Coveted Item of the Week: butter LONDON's All Hail The Queen (or, All Hail McQueen! if you prefer).

For the last two weeks or so I've had my heart set on obtaining butter LONDONs All Hail The Queen! Of course, this was formerly known as All Hail McQueen! (a name I prefer for this polish).  I finally went to Butter London's site to go purchase "All Hail" and wouldn't you know it? It's not there! I tweeted my frustration. The lovely ColourCoated answered my Tweet by telling me it was available off of Alas, it was out of stock...

Coveted Item of the Week: Butter London's All Hail (the Queen) McQueen!

Image from Kelly at Vampy Varnish
Posted With Her Permission.
The lovely Kelly over at Vampy Varnish allowed me to post her picture here so that I could show you exactly what I am coveting. This subtle, beige holo has been something I've wanted ever since it first appeared. But the cost of Butter London polishes always held me back. I don't know why - I've certainly purchased Chanel for more. Maybe it was fear of the unknown. But it has been stuck in my head since last summer when images first started to appear. I was just dumb enough not to purchase it. This always happens to me!

In the meantime, I purchased Victoriana and McBeth from Ulta. I had tried to also purchase Rosie Lee but that too was Out of Stock.

The Price
$14 and the time stalking butter LONDON's site.

Will I Get It?
She who hesitates is lost... unless they manage to restock. Certainly I won't get it with the "McQueen" label since they changed the name. Wonder why they did that...

Winner! GingerKitty Designs Giveaway - @allison_green ! It Is Your Lucky Day

Allison was number 31 on my entries for my GingerKitty Designs Giveaway and Random.Org spit out that number! So she wins a pair of Styrch's Bubble Bobbies in OPI Absolutely Alice with crackle! Awesome prize if I do say so myself.

Allison, I will be contacting you to get your shipping details. And because it is a "Lucky Day" in that it is St. Patty's Day I'll be including a little something extra for you as well.

Thank you to everyone who entered!

P.S. Lisa_MC - Loved the Bedroom Intruder reference in your entry. Just have to say it made me smile. :)

Happy St. Patty's Day!

I am sorry to disappoint you but you will not be seeing a green mani or green eye look or even an orange one from me today. However, you will see this!

Leprechaun Martini from The Melting Pot
You see, I ran out of time to prepare. My husband has been having a lot of work stress lately. So when I found him passed out in his chair in front of the computer last night and me with a 1000 calorie deficit from my workout, I dragged him to the Melting Pot for some fun. I am so glad I did because it was the best dinner we have had in a VERY long time, and also the most fun. I don't regret it at all - he needed it.

In any case, although his family is Catholic, I am not. I am also not Irish. So why should I feel obligated to do anything for this holiday anyway? I never really understood. I suppose it's fun to pinch people not wearing green (though I never thought so - I was always getting pinched in grade school because I didn't have any green clothing).

I am wearing a green shirt, though. An old one I found buried in my closet. Express, size M. Hurray for small successes.

Two Reviews in One Post - Getting Shellac at The Beaute Box!

The Beaute Box is a little business located in the Cannery Lofts in downtown Dayton. My good friend Teresa treated me to a Shellac manicure at The Beauty Box before for my PUSH Runway the Rightway catwalk debut. Let me tell you this... My Shellacing held several (very pleasant) surprises.

My girl April!!!
Surprise #1: April!!!
The Beaute Box had been holding a March Madness sale where you got two Shellac Manis (one for you and one for a friend) for $20 if you booked for March before the end of February. The stipulation being that one person got their mani with Lisa, the other with April. I sat down with April, looked her right in the eye and said "you look so familiar..."

"Have you ever been to Hausfelds?" April asked.

Silence from me. Then...

Seriously you all, April was the BEST manicurist at Hausfelds that I have ever had. When she left Hausfelds, I was devastated. I called one day and they were like "oh yeah, April is gone" and I went a very long time without getting a professional manicure there. Seriously, this girl is quiet and sometimes I didn't know if she was enjoying what she was doing... but she was so damn good at it that I loved her work to pieces! And now I've found her again!

I should also mention that Lisa also worked at Hausefelds. When Hausefelds decided to change their business around Lisa started her own business with April. Their combined experience in this industry is amazing. You can't get a better team, even at the high end spa I usually go to. In fact, they used to be the nail tech educators over at Hausfelds. I've found my local gurus!

Best yet, you can book appointments with them through FACEBOOK of all things. Awesome!

Surprise #2: The Shellac Process Itself
I knew from reading other posts that Shellac required the use of a special light to harden the polish. What I didn't know was how speedy the process is itself. Between each coat of product applied to your nails your hand goes inside this little box and the light goes on... for only about 10 seconds. Seriously, it's quick! I have had regular manicures take so much longer than this one. If you've ever thought about Shellac and not gotten it due to time, put that worry aside. This is no time at all.

Surprise #3: Shellac Lives Up to the Hype
You know that "good wear" for me means that the polish doesn't chip in the first 24 hours. Well, with Shellac, I didn't get my first chip until about the 6th day, and even then it was tiny. I ended up removing my polish on the 8th day because I was so bored of the color that I wanted to just take it off and put something else on.

Check it out!!!

Surprise #4: Removal is EASY!!!
Do you have a bottle of Acetone? Good. You're set. Just soak for a while and then use paper towels to wipe off.

Surprise #5: The Beaute Box is a MOBILE Service
When I was talking to Lisa and April post Shellac mani, they told me their business is centered around being mobile. They can come to you! So if you can't make it to downtown Dayton or you just don't have time to go to them, they can come to you.

So who is Shellac For?
  • People who need to have perfect looking polish - yes I'm thinking of all those business trips I have taken and how much I wish I had just gotten Shellac before the trip.
  • People who need long wearing polish - Any other long wearing polish has got nothing on this. Your nails will grow out before you need to remove it.
Bottom Line - Shellac
The cost is comparable to a regular manicure at a high end spa (around $35), and it'll wear far better. I only wish that CND would make their Effects polishes Shellac compatible, or that there were more shades.

Bottom Line - The Beaute Box
If you're local, the prices are competitive in comparison to places like Hausefelds Salon and Spa, if not a little cheaper. They offer a wide variety of nail services, including Shellac and Minx. These ladies know what they are doing. What are you waiting for? Tell them I sent you.

Quest for My Pretty - Weekly Weight Loss Report

I know I'm in the home stretch and believe me I am working my butt off. But I don't seem to be burning nearly as many calories as I used to. I guess that's my metabolism getting better.

I have been keeping up with my tricep pushup challenge. I have to say that I have had to do 5 in the morning and 5 in the evening. By the fifth day my arms, back, and neck were so sore! Keep in mind I am doing Turbo Fire's Tone and Sculpt workouts at the same time as this so I'm getting extra tricep work sometimes. As a result I ordered P90X's results and recovery formula. I'll review it for you sometime.

Anyway, lets get back to the weigh in:

Weight: 157.6 (-0.4 lbs, I consider this maintaining).

Obviously frustrated still. I know I'm at that part where it will be getting hard to lose weight, but also I am still carrying extra weight so why should it be hard yet? 150 was an arbitrary number. There's no magic in it. Had I chosen 135 as my original number would I be having trouble now or would I be losing easy?

Goal For Next Week
I'm getting close to the end of my TurboFire workouts. I owe you a review of the workouts. I also need to pick what I am going to do next. I'm thinking Insanity or P90X.
