Wow! Send the Trend is Stepping Up their Game for July!

Did you happen to see the little treats and beauties that are available on Send the Trend for July? I just got on and I have to say I am wowed! I love Send the Trend, but this is a different level of fun that I haven't seen from them yet.

Exhibit A: Webster Lilac Snake Ring

Hands down this is my favorite item that I see right now on their site. I am obsessed with cocktail rings right now. This looks like something I'd see on my usual shopping sites for twice the price. This baby is walking home with me!

Exhibit B: The Tracie Veil Fascinator
I have been wondering if Send the Trend was going to jump on Fascinators and they have! I'm excited to see this, mostly because I hope it promises more to come. Granted, this is little more than a decorated headband (and fascinators can be much more than that) but Tracie would be elegant for a night out, or even if you need to be elegant fro somber occasions.

Exhibit C: The Evelyn Fleur Amethyst Ring

Holy crapola is that one crazy ring! But I can see that blinging out some some fun fancy fingers for the summer. Can you imagine coordinating that with a polish? What would you pair it with? I'm so curious! The possibilities seem endless to me.

This is a Send the Trend acceptance link - I hope it works for multiple people. But I would be honored if you joined through me.

Anyway, see what I mean? I love most of my Send the Trend pieces and wear them often, but this just seems like such a different level of glam and fun. I can't wait to see what's ahead! I hope the game is stepped up for good!

MAC Paint Pot in Moss Scape with Sweet Sienna Pigment? AWESOME!

I was thinking about playing around with this combo last week and I think I found a new favorite shade: Smokey gray green!

Face of the Day - June 25, 2011

Seriously, I don't know what I was thinking but I usually wouldn't think of putting something as beautiful as Sweet Sienna pigment (nice gray taupey pigment) over something as bold as Moss Scape Paint Pot. But I love what happened when I did. Pulled it together with a little help from Fyrinnae and I had an awesome eye for the evening!

Face of the Day - June 25, 2011
  • Mac Paint Pot in Moss Scape - Base all over lid.
  • MAC Pigment in Sweet Sienna - Pat it over the top of the paint pot base.
  • Fyrinnae Eye Shadow in Newcastle - Took this dry, and then just swished it in the crease and around the corner. It's a brown-green color and helped I think.
  • Evil Shades Eye Shadow in Day Dream - Used this as brow highlight. It has this awesome duochrome to it. Check it out.
  • MAC Power Kohl in Orpheus - This black-gold worked awesome for this look. Very subtle liner with this eye.
  • MAC Plushlash Mascara in Plush Black
  • Mary Kay Timewise Foundation in Ivory 6
  • MAC Beauty Powder in Oh So Fair
  • MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in By Candlelight - brushed around the face. It's hands down my favorite summer "illuminator".
Face of the Day - June 25, 2011Lips
  • Chanel Glossimer in Glow
Yeah, rather dull lip color, but I love Glow for being very neutral and still looking good. It's casual, beautiful.

ChaLEANExtreme For the Second Time? I have TIPS!!!

I'm finishing up my second round of ChaLEAN Extreme, so I thought I'd put together some thoughts around what I wish I had done more of my second time through. Have a look!

Don't want to watch? No problem. Here's the MOST IMPORTANT Stuff:
  • You will probably have a tendency to rush because you KNOW the workouts.
  • Mix it up: Don't always start on the same side as Chalene. If you find you're doing worse on your left than your right all the time, switch. You might just be getting tired.
  • Mix the Days Up: Don't always do Burn Circuit 1 on Monday. Try doing Burn Circuit 2 on Monday instead.
Have you seen my results from ChaLEAN Extreme the first time around? If not, check out my review of ChaLEAN Extreme.

If you are interested in this workout, please feel free to contact me. I'll tell you more about it.
You can order ChaLEAN Extreme through me.

Quest for My Pretty - Weekly Weight Loss Report

I played a HORRIBLE softball game last night. I decided not to drown my sorrows in Margaritas, but I still had my usual Tillapia and veggies (fajita's sans the tortilla).

This week I really had an issue with reactionary eating. Eating in response to stress, to emotions, you name it. One of these incidents took place at a friendly poker game at a friend's house. The lowest calorie item they had to eat was M & Ms - that's how bad it was. I wasn't planning on eating, but my dinner hadn't filled me so I gorged. On junk! I don't usually do that. But if you knew the incredible "dumb blonde" mistake I made you'd understand completely. Let's just say I forgot the number 6 existed...

Weight: 157.4 lbs (I maintain this week).

I am very glad that's a maintain and not a gain.

Next week I'm going to focus on eliminating fried chicken. This may sound silly to you, but I love my chicken tenders at lunch and I need to start making myself crave a different alternative. Once a week, I shall be allowed to eat fried chicken!

Maybe I should count how many times I have fried chicken in the next year and penalize myself if it's more than 52?

Also, the long weekend will give me a chance to experience with cooking and finding some more clean recipes for food.

To the reader who suggested strawberries and cream as a snack: I LOVE YOU!!!

PHYTO Friends and Family Summer Sale

So I got a notice from a PR rep that PHYTO is having a Friends and Family sale from now (well, Friday June 24) through Wednesday June 29th. You can click here to access the Phyto Sale.

Personally, I can't tell you what to buy because I have not tried any of their products yet. But from what the PR rep told me, they are a French company that uses botanical products that has been around since 1965. I've heard of PHYTO, of course, but just never tried anything.

What about you? Do you plan on purchasing from this sale? If so, what did you get?

Penhaligon's Ltd Summer Sale Starts Tomorrow!

You know I love the fragrance line that Penhaligon's puts forth, so I had to tell you that they are having a SUMMER SALE! 50% off selected fragrances and other items on their site. I have been told some sets will also be featured (like my beloved Artemisia set, and the Benheim Boquet). I encourage picking up these sets because they are a really good deal. Not only do you get a fragrance and usually a lotion or something like that, but you also get a great decorative box for storage. I use mine for accessories.

The stock is limited so you will want to get there EARLY (hence why I am posting on Sunday instead of Monday morning).

Happy Shopping!

BTW - this for US and UK. Awesome!

SeneGence LipSense Swatches! And a Few Other Things...

The lovely Emily Rooney who will be at The Melting Pot Dayton Thursday June 30thfor the Girls Night Out let me photograph her stock. We've been meaning to get together and do a swatching party for a good long while now and something always got in the way. But finally, the stars aligned and we were able to meet up. Therefore I am able to bring you tons of swatches!

LipSense - The Yellow-Based Colors

SeneGence LipSense - Warm colors
Top Row: Peaches & Cream, Beige Champagne, Spice Ice, Cappuccino, Apple Cider, Light Bronze, Moca
Middle Row: Coral Ice, Burnt Orange, Persimmon, Summer Sunset, Red Cherry, Brick, C. Coral
Bottom Row: Nutmeg, Cocoa, Nude

SeneGence LipSense - Yellow Based Colors
Top Row: Peaches & Cream, Beige Champagne, Spice Ice, Cappuccino
Middle Row: Coral Ice, Burnt Orange, Persimmon, Summer Sunset
Bottom Row: Nutmeg, Cocoa, Nude
SeneGence LipSense - Yellow Based Colors
Top Row: Apple Cider, Light Bronze, Moca
Bottom Row: Red Cherry, Brick, C. Coral

Out of these colors I think the ones that appeal to me the most are Spice Ice and Summer Sunset. I think the lighter colors could be very interesting for layering over some of the other colors, particularly Cappuccino. I think that would be a good one to have along with other colors.Nutmeg also appeals to me simply because of the duochrome nature it has.

LipSense - The Blue Based Colors

SeneGence LipSense - Blue Based Colors
Top Row: Cranberry, Blu-red, Crimson Red, Plumeria, Fire & Ice, Roseberry
Bottom Row:  Kiss me Katie,  Rose Ice, Pink Ice, Pink Shimmer, Praline Rose
Bottom Row: Current, Sheer Berry, Dusty Rose
SeneGense LipSense - Cool colors
Top Row: Roseberry, Sheer Pink, Pink Champagne
Bottom Row: Praline Rose , Raisin, Plum
SeneGense LipSense - Cool colors
The Christina Aguilera Colors: Cranberry, Blu-Red, Crimson Red

Most of my favorite colors come from this bunch. Fire & Ice walked home with me. You've seen Sugar Plum in previous faces of the day from me before as well. My additional favorites are Plumeria, Roseberry, maybe Sheer Pink, and of course Blu-Red. I thought I'd like Cranberry over Blu-Red (like Emily) but it was too "berry" for me. If you want something that is straight up Pin-Up Red, Blu-Red is a MUST HAVE! No wonder Christina likes it.

Random LipSense Swatches - Discontinued or Limited or Left Out of Original Swatch Shots

SeneGense LipSense - Cool colors
Bonita and Summer Love

Both Bonita and Summer Love have been discontinued. I had high hopes for Bonita. It looked like it would be gorgeous in the sample that Emily sent me. But it is SERIOUS ORANGE!!! There's a sheen on it that I could not capture on camera which is stunning, however. I have no doubt some of you ladies out there would be brave enough to rock it!

SeneGense - Random Colors
Top Row: Cotton Candy, Caramel Apple, Strawberry Shortcake
Middle Row: Creme de la Creme, Mauve Ice, Salmon
Bottom Row: Pearl Gloss, Gold Gloss, Diamond Pearl Gloss

Cotton Candy, Caramel Apple and Strawberry Shortcake are in the Spring collection. At this time they are limited edition, but Emily said Caramel Apple sold out so fast (they restocked it, don't worry) that she'd be shocked if they didn't make it permanent. I was tempted to scoop it up, but Strawberry Shortcake was calling me and I had a limited budget.

The Middle Row are colors that Emily did not have when I first started swatching. So I just sort of added them in. Creme de La Creme and Salmon belong to the Yellow Based family, while Mauve Ice is one of the loveliest of the Blue Based family. Another on my list.

The Bottom Row are gloss finishes offered besides sheer. You are required to get one gloss with purchase of your first LipSense color so it's nice to know there are other options if totally clear Glossy doesn't cut it for you.

SeneGense - Random Colors
Natural Rose, Natural Salmon

LipSense Naturals  come in four colors and I to try two of them. Unlike the other LipSense colors, these do not tingle on application and the come off in hot water. They are long lasting, however. If you're sensitive you may want to give these a try. But I thought it was funny that Natural Rose didn't look rosy at all.

I was shocked to discover that SeneGense also carries a line of cream to powder shadows:

SeneGence - ShadowSense Eye Shadow
Moca Java, Silver Violet, Pink Frost, Copper
I was even more shocked to discover that these colors are so pigmented! While I did not get a chance to try these on I can say that their pigmentation alone makes them worth a look... particularly that Copper one! There are a bunch of other colors in the catalog, but Emily did not have them out for me to swatch.

A Word on Layering
For those of you thinking about stopping by The Melting Pot Dayton on June 30th, I encourage you to take the time to  speak with Emily about color layering. Given the palette she has to work with she can try to match just about any lip shade you have. Take a look at Emily's current favorite combo:

SeneGense LipSense - Emily's Current Favorite Combo
On Emily: One Layer of Sparkling Bordeaux topped with Kiss Me Katie
Although Sparkling Bordeaux has been discontinued, Emily thinks that this beautiful combo may be achieved with Raisin in it's place.

There are quite a lot of colors here to choose from. While most of them are "safe" colors, many of the colors do have interesting shimmer and finishes. I absolutely encourage you to check out colors like Blu-Red, since you will get 4 to 14 hours of wear from these colors without reapplication.

LipSense products sell for $22 a color, or $45 for your initial set (includes 1 color, 1 gloss and 1 tube of Ooops! to clean up mistakes).
In case you aren't sure what I'm talking about when I mention "LipSense" please read my review.

Product pictured above was provided for swatching in the company of  Emily Rooney. I was not compensated for this post. I do not sell SeneGence products nor am I affiliated with the company in any way.

Quest For My Pretty - Weekly Weight Loss Report

I really need to stop eating fajitas and drinking margaritas before weigh-in day. It's a bit like a sickness, self-sabotage. But when my husband wants to share fried ice-cream I have a very hard time saying no.

Weight: 157.4 lbs (-3.0 from last weigh in, + 3.4 lbs from end of Shakeology Cleanse)

I was pretty sure I wouldn't keep my weight post-Shakeology Cleanse because my eating wasn't quite as clean as I wanted it to be. Plus I was just SO HUNGRY this time! I definitely have hit the "Feed me all the time!" part of ChaLEAN Extreme, and that is getting in my way a bit. But I can't lose weight and build muscle without feeding the muscles. I just need to feed them the right food. I will say that the cleanse did help me with some of my cravings. I have not purchased the "bad stuff" that was getting in my way earlier (Gelato, Nutella, etc).

Ok, priority now is to work sodium our of my diet, and continue to try to eat clean meals. Sometimes, that is the hardest thing.

What are some if your favorite "clean" meals and snacks?

Green Leaf by Shabby Apple - Why the High Prices?

On June 6th, fans of Shabby Apple were treated to a look at the new Green Leaf collection. While the collection was met with the usual oohs and ahhs, it was also followed by objections... to the price. The retro-chic (and relatively cheap) brand was offering these new frocks for upwards of around $200, at least twice the price of their normal lines.

Creme Noeud Black Shift - $225
Fans on Shabby Apple's Facebook page , including myself, were so flummoxed that Shabby Apple wrote a note on Facebook specifically talking about Green Leaf, explain the line and it's extra cost for those of us not in the know. You can read this, but I'll summarize some of the details as I understand them.

Boutone de Rose #35 Dress - $265
About Green Leaf
  •  Shabby Apple wanted to create a line of conservative and fun cocktail dresses for special occasions.
  • The fabrics used for this line were more luxurious than their usual cotton, linen, or blends which accounts for part of the price hike.
  • In addition, these dresses are hand made in the USA.
  • Each dress is custom made.
  • As always, a portion of the sale is donated.
What Fans Nit Pick On
We all know custom made, hand made, and certain fabrics come with a price.  But some fans still raised objections regarding lack of lining, puckering seen in the pictures. Shabby Apple came back, again siting the hand made stitching and that some of their fabrics used (like crepe du chine silk) can't be lined. They further added that the puckers are part of the design. In others, fans - suck it up and pay the price! Shabby Apple thinks you'll be happy with the product.

Eclat - $238
What Are My Thoughts?
I can appreciate a custom hand made dress! And I understand designers/labels having a cheaper brand and a more expensive brand. I think it's usually easier to go from expensive to a less expensive version so I'm not surprised Shabby Apple got a bit of a "Yikes" from their fans. But in terms of whether or not I would personally purchase from Green Leaf, I can say I'll admire it from a distance. If I'm going to pay more than $200 for a dress right now, there are other dresses that I would choose before choosing a Shabby Apple dress. However, that might just be my dress-priority there. While these dresses are quite beautiful, none of them seem special enough for me to own. When I spend that type of cash I really want it to be SPECIAL in some way. I still have other dresses from their regular line that I want before I would pick up something from the Green Leaf line.

By the way, my favorite is the Eclat dress (pictured left). I do think the entire collection is worth browsing, particularly for the styling alone. It's deliciously glamorous, and reminds me of The Great Gatsby or some such time period.  The mix of relaxed dropped waists and tailored chic is adorable. But  wish the accessories came with it, or that there were pictures of these dresses without styling. I would want to see the blank canvas before purchasing. I'm not convinced these dresses would pack quite as much of a punch if I couldn't also rock the retro hair, the super cute hats, the little sash waists. And... I'm not sure these look particularly boob friendly. But I guess that remains to be seen. Purchasers? I want to see your pictures!!!

Question For My Shabby Apple Fan Readers
What do you think of Green Leaf? Are you thinking about buying one of their custom lovelies? Or are you thinking of saving your money for something else? Is the higher price justified? Please let me know in comments below!

Images were used with the consent of Shabby Apple. Pretty in Dayton is a Shabby Apple Affiliate (which makes it seem a little silly that I'm writing this post questioning their latest line - but I'm being honest).

Review: Zoya Touch Collection Has Me A Little Uncomfortable... In A Good Way

I've never been a fan of "light beige" colors (I will NOT be using the "N" word in this post). So when a couple of months ago I had several friends ask me for recommendations on good "light beige" colors, I didn't have many ideas. I am far more comfortable wearing really dark nails. I like contrast, not something that is so pale. Fortunately, Zoya has given us Pandora, Shay and Minka to consider.

Zoya Pandora

Zoya Pandora

Pandora was the first of the touch collection that I tried. When I put her on my tips I was instantly more conscious of my nails. I don't know why light beige colors make me uncomfortable but they do. I'd rather my tips be wrapped in something darker. It wasn't until I realized how beautiful my new JewelMint Aqua Bomb looked paired with Pandora did I have a true "like" for this color:

JewelMint Aqua Bomb ring

See? Doesn't that color just compliment my Aqua Bomb? Pandora is a light beige with a rosy tint to it. There are hints of gray in there as well, which keeps this beige-pink interesting. The metallic sheen keeps the gray tone from being too overwhelming and dead looking. This was the coolest color of the bunch, but still neutral enough where I think it could look good on a variety of skin tones. She is also the least "beige" of the bunch.

Zoya Shay

Zoya Shay

Shay and I had some application issues. In my haste to get her on my tips I think I was quite a bit more sloppy than normal and couldn't get even coats. I don't usually have to fight like that with Zoya polishes, but Shay and I... we fought! Shay is the most neutral beige of the three Touch sisters. Her beige-peach metallic was the color that most matched my skin tone if I wanted my nails to appear the same color as my flesh. Regardless of our "argument" many my predisposition toward not liking Shay I kept her on my tips for quite a few days, which means I think I liked her in the end.

Zoya Minka

Zoya Minka

Minka is the golden goddess of the three Touch sisters. She has the same metallic sheen but is a definite warm golden beige. On me she stuck out a lot. I was always aware of Minka and never grew comfortable with her the way I did with Shay and Pandora. I suspected she would look gorgeous on my friend Kara, but when I compared Minka to Kara's warm olive skin tone Minka wasn't quite right. I should mention Minka sort of reminded me of painting my finger nails with old White Out. You did that in High School, right?

All colors were applied with two coats Qtica Nail Growth Stimulator and topped with Seche Vite.

I found the wear on these colors to be excellent. For my skin tone, even when they did chip it was not that noticable.

Bottom Line
As uncomfortable as I am with "Light Beige", I suspect my preferences are Pandora, Say, then Minka... oddly the order in which I applied them. If ever there was a time for ordering Spoons, this would be it.  They might make for interesting layering options too as bases. Overall I actually liked this collection and how... odd it felt to be wearing these colors.

You can purchase Zoya Pandora, Shay and Minka for $8 each from their website.

Diverging Thoughts
Why does wearing "Light Beige" make me squirm so much? It just makes me so uncomfortable! I find the color to be far more "edgy" sometimes than darker black or near-black colors. Does anyone else out there feel like me?

Oh and further... I would have LOVED this collection to contain a ton of different skin tone matching colors from all over the word. That would have been so cool!

Full Disclosure
These polishes were furnished to me by Zoya for the purpose of use and review. I was not paid to provide this review, and have provided my honest opinion of the product. I am unaffiliated with Zoya, Qtica and the Art of Beauty.

Styrch's Vlog - Shakeology Cleanse Day 3: Oh My Gosh I Have So Much Energy!

Yay! I reached the end of Day 3! I am also amazed that I was able to actually do ChaLEAN Extreme Lean Circuit 2 today and lift better than I did a weak ago eating "normally". Totally shocked!

Coveted Item of the Week: Sparkly Shoes! Nine West Arm Candy, specifically

Ever since Ms. Amber Katz wrote about her Louboutomy I've been drooling over sequin pumps or some type of glitter goodness to bling out my toes! Nine West decided to hit me in my weak spot this week...

Nine West Arm Candy in Fuschia
Coveted Item of the Week - Nine West Arm Candy - $89.00

The sparkle version of these shoes comes in both a Pink Satin option and a silver. There is a black version but I'm not too keen on it because it doesn't look like you're walking on fireworks!

This shoe has a 1 inch platform and boasts a 5 inch heel, which means that it falls into my "Danger Zone" in terms of heels. I do well with 3.5 and then 4 inches gets a little dicey. In fact, I have many 4 inchers from Nine West that sit in my closet unworn, or worn once. So would these have the same fate as their Nine West sisters?

Nine West Arm Candy in Silver Synthetic
Will I Get A Pair?
If they come down in price I will absolutely pounce on the Pink Satin or the silver. I think I would get far more wear out of the silver than any other color, however. In the mean time, I'll be dreaming of Ms. Amber's boast-worthy pair... you know that's what I REALLY covet!

On The Name Of the Shoe
Of course, I have one remaining question however - why would you name a shoe "arm candy"? I realize it's probably in reference to decking one-self out such that you decorate the arm of your significant other (and sometimes it's fun to be that), but these are for your feet! Seems a bit funny. Well, they can name it what they want I guess. It's their shoe! :)

The Images are from Nine West's Website. I am happy to remove them if they need me to do so.

Styrch's Vlog - Shakeology Cleanse Day 1

Ok, thought I'd try something new for this Shakeology Cleanse. It's my third time doing the cleanse, and I thought maybe it might be useful to see a human face... I just didn't think it would look THIS BIG!

Quest For My Pretty - Weekly Weight WTF??? Report

I have been feeling (and looking) like I'm gaining weight again and I don't like that. My diet this week was really good... until my mother-in-law left a lovely box of chocolates on the table. Can't resist chocolate. I know she has the best of intentions but it's frustrating. It was good to have her visit. She doesn't need to also leave chocolate, you know?

On the other hand, my exercise was really good this week. But I just don't think it helped me in regard to the scale. But I KNOW I am building muscle! Let's see...

Weight:160.4 (+ 3.2lbs)

How the FRAK did that happen??? I really hope most of that is water and muscle. I'm freaking out a bit here.

I can hear you now saying "Take your measurements!!!"

But there is hope...

Today is DAY 1 of my Shakeology Cleanse. Hopefully the next three days will get be back on track, in the right frame of mind for losing. It's always done the trick before!

If my internet connection is stable (that's questionable right now) I will be uploading daily recaps of the Shakeology Cleanse for those of us in on it. Congratulations to Lisa and Jenny who are finishing up today! Not sure what I'm talking about? Check out the conversation on Facebook!

Sister Post: Blushes You Can't Have - MAC Don't Be Shy

This blush comes from one of my FAVORITE collections ever: Barbie Loves MAC.

MAC Don't Be Shy

MAC Blush in Don't Be Shy

MAC Blush in Don't Be Shy
Swatched heavily.

Talk about a coveted item! I remember when Barbie Loves Mac hit stores (or online) and this was gone pretty fast. People love the little embossed "Barbie" logo - and a great product too!

I'll be honest - bright blushes scare the crap out of me. Particularly bright pink blushes, especially when they are pigmented. Don't Be Shy opened me up to pink blushes. It's a satin blush so there's not really any shimmer in this. I actually think it applies on the skin more like a matte. What's really great about this blush is that it is buildable. I usually end up pulling it out in the spring because on my skin I can just add a little bit of it, maybe layer Pearl Blossom Beauty Powder on top to make the cheekbones really pop. I love that it adds pink to my look in a way that doesn't scream PINK (even though the product itself does). I mean really... could you get any more girly?

Penhaligon's Releases The Final Two Scents In Their Anthology Collection

I have a small soft spot for the Anthology collection by Penhaligon's because without the revival of these scents I would not have found my Night Scented Stock. Night Scented Stock was uniquely old-school in it's charm and I'm sure the rest of these are similar (I have yet to get my hands on other items in the Anthology scents). But here's the press statement for the latest two. I'd love to hear what you think!

Introducing the final two fragrances in the Penhaligon's Anthologcy Collection; a lush woody citrus Esprit du Roi created by master perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour and the shimmer chypre Eau Sans Pareil, created by Beverly Bayne.

Eau Sans Pareil
Originally created in 1988, Eau Sans Pareil has been transformed into a shimmering chypre.
Opening with a giddy rush of sparkling fruits and sensual white flowers, Eau Sans Pareil is
softened with sweet woods, elegant oakmoss and musks. Powdery, wistful and romantic.

Heart: Jasmine, Damascus Rose, Muguet, Orris, Ylang, Orange Blossom, Liquorice, Clove

Esprit du Roi

scented foliage. Fresh tomato leaf, mint and raspberry leaf are combined with rich florals, warm woods and potent musks to create this masterpiece of contrasts.

About the Anthology Collection
The Anthology Collection was launched in 2009 with the first four fragrances; Extract of Limes, Eau de Verveine, Gardenia and Night Scented Stock. Orange Blossom, Eau de Cologne, Jubilee Bouquet and Zizonia followed in 2010. This July, the collection is completed with these final two scents.

Penhaligon’s has a long and distinguished history in the world of British perfumery dating back to the 1870s when William Penhaligon moved to London from Cornwall and starting creating fine fragrances for discerning gentlemen. With this rich heritage and an archive of formulations, Penhaligon’s have breathed life into ten of its heritage fragrances dating back as far as 1927.

A selection of these formulations have remained unchanged, offering a unique insight into the fragrance tastes and trends of the era, whilst others have been carefully reformulated to ensure they appeal to modern fragrance wearers while still retaining a unique heritage feel.
 End Press Release

Personally, I think there are notes in both of these that sound quite wonderful. I hope I get a chance to smell them in person some time.

OMG! Pigmentation Overload! And From.... Mary Kay?

When I hear the words "Mary Kay" I instantly think of "safe" makeup, where the colors are sheer and "pigmentation" is treated like a bad word. My friend Sable recently became a Mary Kay consultant and has been wanting me to go to one of her meetings to try the new colors. I have been dragging my heels because I was certain nothing would blow my socks off. Imagine my surprise when I finally did get these new eye shadows and lip balms swatched on my hands an saw that not only were they pigmented, but they were fun colors as well!

Eye Shadow Duos - $16 (I believe )
This is a NEW product for Mary Kay. Each shade comes with a shadow side and a liner side in stick form. The swatches below are the shadow on top, paired eye liner below.

The Eye Shadows

These shades come in a stick format where one end is the eye shadow and the others is the liner. I am extremely happy to report that while these sticks reminded me of MAC Shadesticks their consistency is more like a Paint Pot. The color goes on creamy and dries fairly rapidly. Their can be creasing if you work the color too much and don't allow it time to set. The color is easily buildable for maximum pigmentation. Bali Blue and Brushed Copper are the most pigmented of the duos, and Soft Jade and Frosted Fig are on the sheer/shimmery side.  For the colors that are shimmery, the liners are more matte and vice versa.

The Liners
These remind me of MAC Pearlglides but are creamier in texture. I was impressed with how easily these liners could be used. You can smoke them out with the proper brushes. Me, I has a plastic wand at the demo class and still got a good line.

The Tinted Lip Balms - $13 (I believe)

Mary Kay Swatches - Summer 2011
Indoor Without Flash
Berry, Peach, Peony, Cherry
There are four new shades being added to Mary Kay's Tinted Lip Balm Lineup: Berry, Cherry, Peony, and Peach. When I hear the word "tinted" I equate it with Sheer. NO WAY are these sheer. Hands down, these new shades are the most pigmented balms I have ever tried. The Mary Kay instructors at the meeting I attended said the were sheer... Heck no!  These are bold colors fit fir any beach babe. And yes - they are moisturizing and have SPF 15 included. I tried on Peony and Peach, blended them together. They were creamy like balms and moisturizing like balms, but with the opacity of a lipstick.

Bottom Line
I strongly recommend picking up any of the duos, but am most in love with Bali Blue and Frosted Fig. Soft Jade offers some gorgeous layering options, but some people may be turned off because it's too matchy matchy. As for the lip balms, any are nice but I think Berry will be flattering on the most skin tones. I am a sucker for Peony, however.

These colors are currently available for order from your Mary Kay representative depending on her rank. My Mary Kay representative will have them available on her site on June 15th. Please visit Sable's site if you are interested in ordering. Tell her I sent you!

Lunch With Claire - Look of the Day for Saturday, June 4

Last weekend I went up to Ann Arbor, Michigan (my hometown) specifically because my friend Claire was going to be in town from L.A. When we were 16, Claire and I were practically inseparable. Now I hadn't seen her in about 10 years. To say I was nervous would be a bit of an understatement. Regardless, I was definitely excited! So I tried to put on some fun makeup...

Face of the Day - June 4, 2011
My left eye (on the right) is doing something funky... not sure what..

Claire and I June 4th 2011
Me on left, Claire on Right (oddly, we both chose gray).

Note: The heat did not help matters. I think by the time I actually got around to having lunch with Claire all the makeup had migrated off my face.

Also, Claire always looks amazing, even when she's sweating and running around like crazy in the heat!

Face of the Day - June 4, 2011
  • Urban Decay Primer Potion
  • Evil Shades Eye Shadow in Drakon - still loving this color. Used all over lid.
  • Evil Shades Eye Shadow in Amulet - in crease and corner.
  • Evil Shades Eye Shadow in Bombshell - brow highlight.
  • Mac Plushlash Mascara in Plushblack
  • Mary Kay Timewise Matte Wear foundation in Ivory 6
  • Evil Shades Blush in Day Dreamer
Face of the Day - June 4, 2011

  • Three Custom Color Specialists Lip and Cheek stain in Snowbunny
  • Beaute Lip Gloss in Elitist
I should mention that Evil Shades samples come in awesome little clam shell packaging that makes them EXTREMELY EASY to travel with.  I think that's one of the reasons I've been so into that brand lately (aside from it's general awesomeness).

    Let's Talk Snaks!

Yesterday during my Quest for My Pretty - Weekly Weight Loss Report I brought up snacking as one of my most difficult areas at the moment. It was suggested by the lovely Jackie S that I make a list of my snacking tendencies, and I could use this blog as a forum for all of us to get suggestions and alternatives for snacks. I thought it was a fabulous idea!

    Snacks I Gravitate Toward
    • Fancy Chocolate Bars - My work has them, the grocery store has them. I used to buy them and eat them one row a day (one serving). But it's getting harder to limit myself.
    • Crackers - if I'm just hungry at night and need SOMETHING I try to grab a cracker or two. Those little table wafers are usually what I lean to because I buy them for parties and they get left over inevitably.
    • Popcorn - At work it's Smartfoods White Cheddar, at home it's Pop Secret. Most of the time at home I have this when my husband grabs for it. Rarely do I initiate popcorn consumption. The odd thing - my husband is allergic to corn.
    • Fried and Salted Green Beans - I get these from Dorothy Lane Market. They sell a similar thing at Trader Joe's. I will DEVOUR these by the container. Each container is about 400 calories.
    • Ice Cream - Whether it's Skinny Cow or Gelato, I love it. Sometimes my spoon finds it's way into a pint just to a have a couple of bites...
    • Nutella - This has been a recent obsession. A spoonful or two (or more). Love the stuff.
    • Shakeology - Occasionally, I will have a second shake, or half a shake as a snack to hold myself off. This is usually a great solution.
    • Tortilla Chips and Dip - Again, something my husband brings in. But I'm helpless against the call of spinach dip and salty chips.
    • Sweet Potato Fries - I make these fresh, baked. The only thing stopping me from doing this more often is that it takes 1/2 hour to prepare. And that can be super annoying. But what a treat!
    • Almonds - I love raw almonds. If I have them, I eat them.
    • Wine, Whiskey and Whipped Cream Flavored Vodka - This can lead to more snacking but I love my three Ws!
    Things I have Ditched
For a long while I was OBSESSED with Fiber One Toaster Pastries and bars. They are good, but up until a point. There are a lot of carbohydrates in there and they are a processed food. They are great for cleaning out your pipes, but not great for clean eating.

So what are some of your favorite snacks? What are some of your suggestions for healthy (and tasty) snacks? Do you  try to eat clean when snacking? Let it all go below!

Trying Out Sole Society - I Purchase The Sofia Shoes

When I first learned about Sole Society I thought that there couldn't possibly be a scenario in which I wanted to belong to a subscription shoe service in the same way that I belong to Send the Trend and JewelMint. I've never been a huge shoe buyer - new shoes are often synonymous with pain (in the form of blisters) and ridicule (from my husband). In general I usually try to avoid it.

That being said, I found myself with a need for a comfortable wedge heel in black. Browsing my closet for Sole Society I stumbled on the Sofia shoe. I hemmed and hawed about the purchase for quite a long time. I looked up comparable shoes on Zappos and such and realized that Sole Society's price for this type of wedge wasn't bad. So I made the purchase....

    Warning... Toes!!!

    Sole Society Sofia Shoe
Sole Society Sofia Wedges in Black

    What is Sole Society
Quite simply put, it is exactly like the subscription accessories service. You sign up, they give you a "personalized closet" and you can choose to purchase or pass. The cost of shoes is $49.95 with free shipping. It's not a bad deal when you consider most quality shoes are higher priced than that. And of course you can pass a month after a certain time period at the beginning of the month (I am pretty sure it's the standard 5 days).

    What Are the Drawbacks?
    • Selection is very limited. There are only a certain number of shoes a month.
    • They only show you six shoes at a time.
    • You can send a request for a "new closet" but you have to wait up to 24 hours for your closet to reappear and refresh.
    • Sole Society does NOT publish a list of all of their shoes being offered or have an easy way of finding them (unlike JewelMint and Send the Trend where you can see more than your personal selections). This is the most annoying thing EVER!!! Especially if your closet doesn't really fit your tastes or what you are looking for.
    Ways Around The Drawbacks
As you can probably imagine, the last drawback I listed above is a frustration for many buyers. Therefore, there are some solutions that are cropping up from within the community on Facebook:
    • Go to Sole Society on Facebook - you will always see users posting screenshots of their closets at the beginning of the month. This community is full of enablers who are willing to help you find the shoe you want if it doesn't show up in your closet.
    • Quite often, a buyer will post a Facebook note consolidating all the shoes for a month. See THIS example
    • Check out The Shoe Doctor Blog - This shoe obsessed blogger may actually be the same person that posts the notes on facebook. I'm not sure. But a few days into the month this blogger usually has a listing of all of the Sole Society offerings with links and pictures. AWESOME!
    • .If you know the NAME of the shoe you are looking for, you can go to the Trends page on Sole Society and enter the name of the shoe in the search field on the right. Not the easiest place to find it, quite honestly.

My Purchase - The Sofia Shoe Itself
I still got blisters, but these absolutely fit the bill for what I want. the straps tend to cut across my front toe and with enough walking, it rubs the wrong way. Time, a few wears, and maybe some tootsie TLC will solve that problem. It shipped very quickly and the shoes arrived in good condition.  I am very pleased with this purchase.

    Customer Service
From reading the posts on the Sole Society Facebook Page, Sole Society seems to be very interested in helping their customers with their issues. You will often see them interacting with people who have issues and other posters talking about exchanges. I'm sure there are complaints, but nothing stands out in my mind. I have no direct experience with Sole Society customer service but I'll let you know if/when I do.

    Bottom Line
I hate "The Closet", but it is worth signing up for Sole Society and waiting for the right shoe. Once you make that purchase, then skip each month until another pair lovely shoes up. Also, haunt the Facebook page!

If you want to join Sole Society,  I would be honored if you would use my invite link.

Layering CND Shellac with Lisa of the Beaute Box

A couple of weeks ago, I was treated to a free CND Shellac by Lisa of The Beaute Box at the Melting Pot Girls Night Out. Lisa and I took the opportunity to try some layering experiments:

    Layering Shellac

    • First Finger - Two coats of Rock Royalty, one coat of Iced Coral. The Iced Coral brings out the green gleam.
    • Middle and Ring Fingers - Two coats of Rock Royalty, one coat of Tutti Fruiti. Gives a nice semi-magenta purple hue.
    • Ring Finger - Two coats of Rock Royalty, one coat of Tutti Fruiti, one coat of Iced Coral. And now it looks a little like RBL Scrangie to me.
Are there any other layering ideas with Shellac you have tried?

If you are in the Dayton area, I recommend The Beaute Box for all your Shellac needs.

Quest for My Pretty - Weekly Weight Loss Report

Several good things happened this week related to weight loss. I had another great game of softball (for me). I caught another person out by catching another pop up, and I made it on base running because I accidentally bunted while swinging (it counted). So that's awesome for me! Yay me!

The better item was that on my trip up to Michigan this past weekend my awesome mom arranged for me to meet with her trainer. This is someone who I trained with about a decade ago. He assessed me and said that I was in much better shape than I was when I trained with him last (a long while ago), and that I had good muscle tone and was one of his stronger women that he trains. He also gave me a lot of advice which I'll talk about after my weigh in:

    Weight:157.2 (-0.6 lbs)

It is what it is. I don't think going out for margaritas post game on Tuesdays is helping. Plus I had a wonderful weekend in Ann Arbor full of food and drink! It sure is fun! Anyway...

Tips From My Trainer And Stuff He Said
    • I'm at the point in my fitness where I need to make micro adjustments in order to do better.
    • He wants me to commit to at least two days a week of CLEAN eating. I've managed one so far this week.
    • I am to focus on my snacking and come up with some better snacks.
    • He says it's best to replace the not-so-good things with healthier things because then you're not getting rid of something, you're just making a change.
    • He thinks I have a bit of a psychological problem with my weight loss.
The Biggest Piece of Weight Loss Advice
My trainer wants me to change my goal. He thinks if I change the goal, I'll lose the weight. I am so close to my goal it's getting hard, if that makes any sense. The goal he would like me to aim for is 135 lbs. That's 15 lbs lighter than my original goal. If I recommit to something new, he thinks it'll help my loss quite a lot. As he's put it, I've already committed once and lost a ton. Now that I'm so close, that commitment is waning whether I intend it to or not.

So I ask you my loyal readers: What do you think of my trainer's advice? Should I change my goal? I'm sort of leaning toward YES!!!

Random Face of the Day Using Evil Shades

I wore this look out to a party a few weeks back. It was a really fun Karaoke party. I have awesome videos of me and friends singing (accompanied by Jose Cuervo) but I don't quite have the guts to put any of that up here yet. So for now you get the face:

Face of the Day - May 21, 2011

Still trying to figure the hair out. Now that I know that what's around my face is new growth I'm trying to treat it nicely, but still tame it. I'm open to suggestions if anyone has any.

Face of the Day - May 21, 2011
    • Urban Decay Primer Potion
    • Evil Shades Eye Shadow Athame - Patted on lid
    • Evil Shades Eye Shadow Conjure - In the crease and outer corner
    • Meow Cosmetics Eye Shadow in Virgin - on the brow bone.
    • MAC Plushlash Mascara in Plushblack
Face - My cheeks were really glittery... but in a good way I think

    • Meow Cosmetics Foundation in Frisky Sphynx - I put this on with MAC Fix  + this time, hoping to get it to give a bit more coverage.
    • Evil Shades Blush in Daydream - on apples and cheeck bone.
    • Evil Shades Blush in Gossimer - to highlight cheek bone a bit
    • SeneGence LipSense in Sugar Plum - You've already seen pictures of this a few times. I'm still trying to get my LipSense pusher to let me swatch her collection so I can show you what she has (and purchase another lip color or two) but I don't have that yet.

    Cult Nails - Devious Nature

From Cult Nails A Day At The Races Collection, I give you Devious Nature!

    Cult Nails in Devious Nature

    Cult Nails in Devious Nature

There have been a lot of pinkish purple tones out lately, or maybe it just seems like with Zoya Summertime collection. I was reminded of Areej, but I think Devious Nature is a bit more "hot pink" than Areej. It is quite beautiful, and I loved it on my nails while it lasted. But it didn't last very long, sadly.

The color is actually  purplish toned hot pink. It's a cream, or at least it looked that way on me. I do think this color is very beautiful and a good shade for summer.

Very little difficulty with this one.Two coats over Qtica Nail Growth Stimulator and topped with Seche Vite.

Unlike Let me Fly, this one started chipping on me within 24 hours. I really don't know why. I guess there must be something about Devious Nature that didn't like me (or my base perhaps).

    Bottom Line
Cult Nails has other colors that are far more unique than this one. I would suggest you spend your $10 on a different color, unless you love hot pinks (and I know some of you do). If that's the case I suggest a stickier base coat than what I used so you can keep it pretty!

You can purchase Cult Nails from their website.
