When a rainbow of colors arrives on my doorstep I immediately want to play!
I ADORE Zoya nail polish. And I when I first saw Beach (creams) and Surf (Foils) I was really excited. You know how much I love foils! And corresponding creams? I thought for sure this was a collection I would like. Unfortunately, these polishes (for the most part) did not meet my expectations in regards to the application ease I usually see from Zoya.
I like my two coat creams. The more coats, the worse the outcome for me. Most of these colors took three coats for me, the formula felt very watered down. That's not to say the colors weren't pretty - they are. But they aren't up to the standards of what I am used to from Zoya.
Foils! Love foils. Except these felt more like Zoya Mattes or Velvets with a bit more shimmer/shine to them. I had the same problem with application that I do with those formulas - you need to let them dry before putting on a second coat or the color will clump and drag. Given that I KNOW Zoya can do awesome foils, this also left me wanting. I love using my fast dry top coat immediately and these just didn't let me do that!
On the plus side, all polishes once applied held up. Any place you see nicks is due to the condition of my nails, not the polishes themselves. And seriously, changing weather has wrecked havoc on my hands and nails in general. Don't be surprised... I'm saying "EEEEK!!!!" when I see some of these pics too.
Now that I've got my griping out of the way, I really did have a few polishes that I really liked...
Zuza - Surf
This may very well be one of the prettiest colors I've seen all year. I don't care about the formula issues and they weren't that apparent in this particular color. I liked this one.
Wednesday - Beach
I was probably pre-destined to like Wednesday. So I'll admit a bit of bias on account of the Addams Family.
Zoya Tracie - Beach
Tracie's actually more pearly than cream. And I really liked that. It was different, and yes... a bit difficult. But since it was so different for me I consider it a must have.
Zoya Kimber - Surf
I ADORE Kimber!!! She's not quite red enough to be RED, not pink enough to be PINK, but is just plain gorgeous. I'll keep her around in my stash for sure
And the others I didn't like quite as much...
Zoya Meg - Surf
A very bright Kelly green... I'd actually choose Zoya Irene over this one.
Zoya Myrta - Surf
Myrta suffered from the draggy not-really-a-foil problem I mentioned above. Not a fan
Zoya Arizona - Beach
I kind of liked Arizona, but it's not my color. I doubt I'd wear it much. But I'll probably hang onto it in case there is a need.
Zoya Rory - Surf
This one didn't seem all that original to me and I wasn't feeling it. I can't think of a specific polish, but with the application problems I was having it left me underwhelmed.
Zoya Shelby - Beach
Shelby I'm sorry I'm not a pink person. Especially if I have to apply it with 3 coats.
Zoya Lara - Beach
My boss loves nail polish. This one was destined for her, not me. Again, issues with 3 coats but I think in the right hands Lara can be gorgeous. Just not for me.
Zoya Carly - Surf
I had draggy application problems with Carly so much I would never give up other similar Zoya colors for this one. Never. Just get Jem and be Happy.
Zoya Reagan - Beach
Like Lara, in the right hands maybe. But those hands are not mine.
I've never really disliked a Zoya collection before this one. It was bound to happen at some point. As I said before, I suggest picking up Zuza, Wednesday, Tracie, and Kimber... but the others you only need if you really want them. And I think Zoya's color palette has more suitable colors that are similar to many of these. And for $8 a pop I'm sure you can find cheaper alternatives with fewer application issues.
These polishes were furnished to me by Zoya
for the purpose of use and review. I was not paid to provide
this review, and have provided my honest opinion of the
product. I am unaffiliated with Zoya, Qtica and the Art of Beauty.
