Quest For My Pretty: Weekly Weight Loss Report

Ok, Bill, don't kill me! I'm actually down 2 pounds from Saturday. I'm also sick with a cold!

Weight: 165.8 (+2 from last official weigh in, -2 from Saturday).

As of Monday I'm seriously logging my food again. I have to control this! Cold and all, I need to be aware of what I'm eating again.

Also...
PUSH UP UPDATE
105/600
I may actually have done more than that but without a ticker to track I've been losing count. I'll just have to add my own count I guess to the site bar.

Sorry for the short update, but I'm really feeling cruddy.

DIY - Holy Crap I made a dress I can actually wear to work!

To be fair to myself, this isn't the best dress ever made (by far) and I'm still learning. It's DKNY V1250 pattern. If you read sewing blogs, chances are you've seen this before.

Get ready for crappy pictures.

DKNY Pattern Dress

DKNY Pattern Dress

For me, I had a difficult time with the darts, particularly at the hips. Considering I've never sewn DARTS in anything before, I shouldn't be too hard on myself. I also had issues with the upper back - I sewed poorly, had to rip out a seam and create a new seam (after cutting an inch off the back). So the waist (according to the back) is dropped like DKNY likes, but it sits at my actual waist. I think if I were doing this again, I'd put the waist at my waist and then do something to avoid the hip darts. I also hemmed it up about 5 or 6 inches (and I could go higher - personal preference).

I have the feeling I will sew this again. It's SO comfy and easy!

Revisiting Old Friends: OPI Black Tie Optional with Chanel Kaleidoscope

I love it when two of my favorites go so well together... Plus there's nothing out there that will make you appreciate OPI's Pro-wide brush like going back to a bottle that doesn't have it. Seriously!

OPI Black Tie Optional and Chanel Kaleidoscope

OPI Black Tie Optional and Chanel Kaleidoscope

And thus my favorite "roach tips" became my favorite "skunk tips"!

I wore this for Dayton Pecha Kucha night last week. You already know that OPI Black Tie Optional and Chanel Kaleidoscope are two of my favorite polishes ever. I was inspired to try putting them together. It's not the most neatly done manicure, but hey... I did this quickly and for fun!

Enjoy!

Quest For My Pretty: The 40 Day Goal!!!

If you're looking for a weight update today, you're not going to get it. I forgot what day it was due to the holiday on Monday (yes my work had it off) and it just skipped my mind. However, I'm announcing a new fitness goal for myself. After all, it is now Lent. I'm not particularly religious, but I like to use this time to create a new good habit. It has helped me in the past, and I suspect this "trick" will help me in the future. I set a goal, I have a time limit. It's all good!

New Fitness Goal For Lent:
Last year, I did 400 Push Ups in 40 days. This time, I intend to do 600.

Why:
Doing Les Mill's Pump and Shred on Monday I was confronted with a reality: my arm muscles are not as strong as they were when I was doing Insanity back in October. I really didn't like that I couldn't even make it to 10 Pushups before having to go to my knees. That's ridiculous and I'm better than that!

What's Changing:
Last year my only rule was that I was doing Tricep Pushups. This time I'm making up some more parameters:
  • 15 Pushups instead of 10 - 10 was too easy last year.
  • Any type of pushup so long as they aren't on my knees! - I have a nice repertoire of pushups thanks to Insanity so I should use them.
  • At least 5 of my Pushups a day should be Tricep Pushups.
I'll be including my upkeep on this goal with my Weekly Weight Loss Report.

So... what should I reward myself with at the end of this? Hmmm....

Latest Obsession: Revlon Lip Butters

I'm normally not a fan of drugstore makeup, but when I saw Revlon Lip Butter getting so many good reviews I had to check them out.

Colors Top To Bottom: Cherry Tart, Candy Apple, Raspberry Pie, Lollypop, Sweet Tart, Strawberry Shortcake.

What's Good: These are exactly what I wanted from MAC Slimshines. They are pigmented (some more than others), extremely creamy, and they last longer than a gloss. I find I do have to reapply, but that doesn't matter to me that much. They feel good and there's no crazy taste or scent (one of my usual drugstore turnoffs).

Bottom Line: You cant go wrong with these. They are about $7-$8 dollars normally but you can sometimes find them on sale.

I picked mine up at my local CVS - which seemed to be behind the curve here. They didn't get all the colors in for a month or so after I started reading about these a lot. Anyway you can find them easily.

11 Random Things - Yeah I got tagged... have you been tagged yet?

On the surface, I LOATHE stuff like this as they have their origin in the ever-annoying "Chain Letter". However, I do enjoy reading things like this on other people's blogs because while I read their blog and feel like I know the person, I never really do. These exercises remind me of that fact: The internet, no matter how "personal" it may seam, can never truly replace getting to know someone face to face.

Ms. LillyPea... you and I need to have some tea/wine/appetizer SOMETHING sometime soon!

Without further ado...

11 Random Facts About Me
  1. I have a habit of chewing ice.
  2. When I go to big parties, if I am being included in the conversation I'd rather sit by myself. If I'm not being included in the conversation I try to become a part of it.
  3. I realize that I am incredibly selfish.
  4. There are two things I am powerless against: Ian Somerhalder, and Chris Cornell's voice. Three if you add "Eric Northman".
  5. I am constantly sad that Cicero is going to die one day and I will most likely still be here.
  6. It's not uncommon for me to have a song stuck in my head for weeks (or months).
  7. I may actually have a better talent for laser tag than my husband. Quite possibly I have more talent at using my real gun too (yes, I have one... it's named "Kitty").
  8. Almost daily I think about discontinuing this blog.
  9. My high school adviser used to say if he saw me smiling he knew I was unhappy.
  10. I have a large collection of Buffy the Vampire Slayer action figures.
  11. Virtually the only nail polish I wore in high school was Revlon Blackberry.

11 Questions to me from LillyPea
    • What’s your least favorite chore? Weeding. I hate it moistly because of the bugs, dirt, and occasional dog droppings in my yard. AND it has to be done constantly or it gets impossible. I usually let it get impossible, and then let my husband get mad at me.
    • Do you take daily vitamins? Yes. Shakeology is a mutlivitamin
    • Name one crafty project you want to tackle. Knitting that Rag & Bone Inspired sweater I keep dreaming about.
    • What’s one food item you couldn’t give up? Water.
    • If you could have a shopping spree at any retailer, who would you choose? Althea Harper! You need to ask?
    • What super power do you wish you had? Don't make me choose... being invisible, being able to change my appearance, being able to jump around in other people's dreams.
    • What famous person do people say you resemble? I have gotten the following: Alicia Silverstone, Meg Ryan, Reece Witherspoon, Kara Thrace (but oddly NOT Katee Sackhoff herself), and Emma Stone. If you count MyAncestry.com, then I also resemble The Rock and Jada Pinkett Smith.
    • What’s one of your fitness goals for 2012? Break the 150 lb barrier.
    • Cookies or cupcakes? Cookies!!!!!!
    • What trendy word do you wish people would stop using? "Irregardless". It's not real! "regardless" means what people use "irregardless" for!
    • What is your favorite holiday? Thanksgiving. Used to be Halloween. Although I'm not sure I like Thanksgiving anymore either. Do I really have to answer this question?

Quest For My Pretty: Weekly Weight Loss Report

A week of traveling, a week off. And then anther week of traveling with Valentine's Day thrown in. I really didn't expect to lose this week (or rather over the last three). There was a time before I started trying to lose weight that when I traveled I EXPECTED to lose weight because of sheer amount of walking I did. But that was before I started exercising regularly. Watching my BodyBugg while I was in New York I discovered several things:
      • On the days I fly out I burn more - I am more anxious and running around. Also due to the return flight being at 9:00 PM I'm not sitting around the airport as often,.
      • On days when I am in business meetings all day I burn LESS than I do on regular working days - This has to do with the fact that my Dayton campus being so much larger than the New York office and that I get breaks to walk around during my regular day.
      • Because I have altered the way I eat I am now eating MORE when I go out to a business dinner rather than less - that's just the nature of the beast.
So unless I get time to do extra exercise in my hotel room or walk 50 blocks there's no way I can meet my new daily calorie expenditure on a regular basis during regular business travel.

      Weight: 163.8 (+3.4 lbs)

Ultimately the conclusion is that when traveling I will have to keep tighter control over my food than previously thought. I'm ok with a gain, having learned from my experience.

Back to business. I'm rededicated to Les Mills PUMP and am teaching Turbo Kick twice a week. Lets see how it goes!

Tropical Strawberry Shakeology is HERE! My Way of Celebrating...

I love Shakeology. You know that if you read my blog. It's the best thing that's ever happened to my diet. And it just got even better with Tropical Strawberry Shakeology. Why is it better than Chocolate or Greenberry? Here's the relevant info:
"This refreshing vegan shake is also the first addition to our new Beachbody Ultimate line—products that help nurture the body's natural ability to heal itself and enhance the body's own organic processes. And it's 100% dairy-free and lactose-free.
And, like our Chocolate and Greenberry flavors, Shakeology Tropical Strawberry is packed with vitamins and minerals that continue to make Shakeology the Healthiest Meal of the Day®. With 160 calories, 20 grams of carbs, and 15 grams of protein, it's the ideal breakfast choice that can help you achieve the body you've always wanted."
      How I'm Celebrating
Well I've already ordered a box of samples for myself. But if you want to get in on the action too, then you can order a box or a bag if you don't want to wait for samples from me. As always, Shakeology has a "Bottom of the Bag" 30 Day guarantee - if you don't like it send it back. But if you order from me by end of day February 17th, I'll enter you in to drawing for a free workout program. The winner gets one of the following:

Althea Harper Fall/Winter 2012 Images and Review

Happy Valentine's Day! Can you guess which GENIUS put together the collection of my dreams AGAIN??? Of course you can! You know I'm totally in love with Althea Harper's designs. And getting the images to look through was like the best Valentine's Day gift ever! Do you want to see Althea Harper Fall 2012? Because I want to talk about it really REALLY really badly!

Don't you wish your Valentine would do something like this for you?

Guys, think about it! A little humiliation can go a LONG way!

I totally miss high school. If I had to do high school all over again, I'd be a guy. I think I'd be good at it.

What's the most silly romantic thing YOU'VE ever done for anyone?

Inspiration for your Valentine's Day Kiss...

I am ashamed to admit that after almost 9 years of marriage I think my husband and I have forgotten how to kiss. As we're trying to relearn the art of the "make your knees weak" kiss, I thought I'd share some Kiss-n-speration with you. And context is EVERYTHING with a kiss, right?

      In random order...

Westley and Buttercup - OF COURSE!

The "Gently" kiss was a good one too, though.

      Damon and Elena

Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfreid - just because my husband likes it. Please excuse the f-bombs.

I tried to find a hot guy-on-guy kiss because I think that I want to represent something for everyone. Unfortunately, I just couldn't find one I liked... wait! Maybe this one, just because it's ERIC!

Thankfully I found a clip that cut off before it got too graphic. Why is it always graphic when you have same sex couples? Maybe those are just the ones I remember...

Cleaning it up a little, here's Harry and Sally:

And I can't NOT have this... because we all know it's romantic to kiss in the rain.

In my opinion that clip cuts off a little short. But you get the idea.

And a classic kiss - bare with the crappy commentary here. I LOVE this kiss from Grace Kelly to Jimmy Stewart in Rear Window:

Oh yeah... and for those of you who want to see Bella and Edward Kiss, their first kiss was my favorite. But I can't find a good copy to embed, so click the link.

Sure, a kiss may become common place, but a good kiss... a REALLY GOOD KISS can be something that is hard to come by. You know, the tingly kind of kiss. When you kiss your Valentine today, please remember that the really good kind of kiss is something to be sought after and cherished.

To those of you who've still got it, you ROCK!

Penhaligon's LTD News from London Fashion Week

I absolutely adore receiving press releases from Penhaligon's LTD and their collaborations with Meadham Kirkhoff. In fact, I was just thinking I missed my chance to get the full Penhaligon's experience while I was in NYC last week when this lovely little excerpt arrived in my email box...

"Meadham Kirchhoff’s multi-sensory shows have rapidly become the talk of London Fashion Week and Penhaligon’s is delighted to be scenting their A/W 2012 collection A COSMOLOGY OF WOMEN: CHAPTER 5 "He gave me Blue Roses, LIFE ! (vicariously)" in more ways than one.

In addition to scenting the show space, collection and models with one of their classic fragrances, the front row will also be able to experience the show via their taste-buds too.

In a twist on the notion of scent, Penhaligon’s has worked with Meadham Kirchhoff and Edinburgh based chocolatier The Chocolate Tree, to create an exclusive Eau San Pareil confection, designed to be enjoyed during the show.

The chocolate has been carefully created to reflect the notes in this season’s chosen scent Eau San Pareil. Opening with a giddy rush of sparkling fruits and sensual white flowers, Eau Sans Pareil is a shimmering chypre softened with sweet woods, elegant oakmoss and musks."
How original! I know Penhaligon's has worked with various bartenders to create alcoholic beverages based on their scents before, but chocolate confections? I love it! What a wonderful idea. I truly am inspired by the creativity and collaboration that goes on between this company, the fashion designer they choose to support, and the experience they work together to create. Some day I hope I can experience it first hand.

You can purchase Penhaligon's Eau Sans Pareil from their website, if you're unlucky (like me) and do not have a counter or store nearby.

All images and press release information were provided  by Penhaligon's PR.

PHYTO for Derek Lam and DVF: Do you prefer the messy or slick bun?

      Yay! Fashion Week News!

My hair's way too short right now to try any of this, but far be it for me not to pass it on to some of you reading my blog! I've always adored  people who have the ability to tie back their hair in interesting ways and the following too form PHYTO seem pretty achievable (to varying degrees). Take a look..

      • Professional Fiber Paste

      4. Spray brush with Phyto Professional Workable Holding Spray and create a loose bee-hive, secure hair at the nape of the neck in low ponytail for evening. For day, the hair is pinned underneath by criss crossing pins.
      5. Use Phyto Professional Fiber Paste to add texture and make hair look piecy (or use Phyto Matte Texturizing Paste for fine hair)
      6. Finish the look (and side swept bangs) by using Phyto Professional Workable Holding Spray.

Inspiration:   Surrealism. The difference between a meeting and a rendezvous which lends to an air of mystery. Diane also plays with the contrast of shiny and matte textures in the collection, which Orlando translated into the hair look by creating extreme shine on portions of the hair by using the products below.

      Products used:
      • Phyto Professional Wet Gel
      • Phyto Professional Shine Defining Wax

Quest For My Pretty: Stalled In NYC

      Hello lovely readers!

You may have noticed that this is the third week in a row that I haven't sent out a Quest for My Pretty update. In fact, that's unprecedented. However, in the history of this blog I've had an unprecedented amount of travel over the last three weeks. Consequently, I have not been near my scale.

      So what have I done?
      • I have made a point to ask for a room with a larger foot print upon checking in to my hotel so that I can work out (Turbo Kick).
      • I've been in NYC, so I've been walking as much as I can. One trip included walking around the MET and then walking back to my hotel over 50 blocks. If I can't get my workout in, at least I feel good about my movement.
      • Killing time at the airport is no longer about sitting and waiting! Believe it or not, airports are great for pacing. That's extra steps! I know one other workout enthusiast who suggested to me that I use seats or benches for chair dips but as I'm usually in a skirt at the time of airport travel... that might be a little inappropriate. I'll settle for dragging my luggage back and forth, thank you!
Anyway, I'm sure I'll be back to posting more regularly soon. I just wanted to let you know I have not abandoned my quest!!!

A Tale of Two Purples... Zoya True Collection

I've been sitting on the Zoya True collection for a while. And I remembered the promise I made to myself that if I didn't feel up to swatching an ENTIRE collection, I wouldn't make myself feel obligate. The other day I felt like I was in a purple mood. Consequently, my guilt over having neglected Zoya lately caused me to put one purple on one hand, and one on the other...

      Zoya Lotus

      Zoya Lotus

      Zoya Tru

      Zoya True

      Colors
Now,  Zoya describes these collections as the "new neutrals" on their website. I agree with that description for Lotus, but Tru feels very warm to me. Zoya Tru reminds me a little of a tame Roxy. Zoya Lotus reminds me a little of Kelly.  That being said, I think they are both gorgeous and the subtle red shimmer in both colors adds to the depth.

      Application
My standard Qtica Nail Growth Stimulator topped with Seche Vite. But make sure you have good lighting - I had some inconsistency issues. Probably due more to my own personal error.

      Wear
Fantastic. After two days I still don't have a single chip. That's huge for me!

      Bottom Line
If you're a purple nut like me, you probably have something similar. However these are both excellent colors if you're inclined to make the purchase.

      Full Disclosure
These polishes were furnished to me by Zoya for the purpose of use and review. I was not paid to provide this review, and have provided my honest opinion of the product. I am unaffiliated with Zoya, Qtica and the Art of Beauty.

Toga Chic in a Red Satin Sheet!

My friend Jenny threw herself a Toga Party a few weeks ago for her birthday. I attempted to glam up a bit last minute:

      DSC09007
Red Satin Sheet, Shoes from Sole Society

Do you have ANY idea how difficult it was to get that thing on and and actually keep it in place? I had pins everywhere and pinned to every underpinning garment I had on! And still... STILL things fell down during the night!

      Jewelmint Baltic Gem Earrings
      "Baltic Gem" Earrings from Jewelmint

And of course simple makeup for an extravagant color...

A couple of products new to me that I used in this look but found to be worth mentioning beside the breakdown: MAC Fluidline in Ash Violet and Benefit Blush in Hervana. Look for formal reviews later.

Face of the night - 01/21/12
      Eyes:
      • Too Faced Shadow Insurance
      • theBalm - Several shadows from the Nude-itude pallet
      • MAC Fluidline in Ash Violet
      • MAC eye kohl in Smolder
      • Benefit Mascara in They're Real

      Face
      • Mary Kay Foundation in Ivory 6

      OCC Lip Tar in Trollop

I've been a bit obsessed with getting this color...

      OOC Lip Tar in Trollop

Bright enough to wake up a sad "winter" face" and definitely toned down enough to be appropriate for any situation.

      Do you own OCC Trollop?

My Send The Trend Picks for February

Send the Trend had some pretty nifty things this coming month so I thought I'd highlight what I liked for you. You can see all the things that I like from Send the Trend this month in my My Style page.

      The McKay Vintage Mirror

Willis Carbon Slinky Strand - This was what I purchased ahead of time. It just looks so WEIRD I had to give it a try.

Hathaway Antique Bib Necklace - The second I saw this I KNEW It would be the first thing I saw to sell out. Personally, I can't wear stuff like that. But isn't it gorgeous?

As always, images are from Send the Trend.
