Let's Talk About Models!!! More from Dayton Fashion Week Casting

In an earlier post I discussed some things I learned about about Model Casting from my experience this past weekend with Dayton Fashion Week. Today I want to talk about the models themselves. Most specifically, I want to talk about MY favorite models! My opinion may not count as much as the designer's opinion (how could it?) but hey... I  do have one and I was there. And maybe, just maybe, some designer for Dayton Fashion Week will say "Hey... that Styrch girl may be a blogger, but she's also a consumer so maybe I should think about who she liked..."

No, I'm not giving names because mostly I don't know them. Sorry. And no, I don't have their numbers so look for your dates elsewhere. I do NOT have the hook up! Ok?

In order of appearance...

303 - The PERFECT Girl

The only thing I can say about this girl is that you don't know what you're looking for until you see it. This girl set the bar! When she stood in front of us, I wasn't sure what to think (she was the third person I'd seen after all). But the second she took off down the make-shift runway at Pasha Grill my novice eyes bugged out of my head and I probably said out loud "OH MY GOSH!!! I GET IT NOW!!!"  This lovely young lady had a beautiful walk! Her book was stunning too. I hope that our designers choose her because she was fabulous! I'd watch her walk down the runway in a paper bag and buy it right off of her knowing I can't fit into it, you know? THAT girl! I think we might be friends on Facebook now, actually. I really hope she lets me know what the outcome is!

304 - The Charming Personality Girl

I would have loved to have had this lovely young lady sit and chat with us for hours. I know it's not about personality, but her walk was really great too! One of the best of the day, in my opinion. And doesn't she just have the most gorgeous neck you've ever seen? I think she could win anyone over.

306 - Mr. Photogenic

Maybe it's the hair but I remember seeing this guy before we officially started casting and I thought "yeah, I think I'll like him." I remember his photos being just great! He stood out. And I hope that I'll see him on the runway come July.

307 - The Cult Fav

This girl reminded me of Juliet Landau so much, I may have been blinded to everything else. Her walk wasn't perfect (she needs to loosen up with her right arm a bit). But any Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan out there is probably thinking what  was thinking, "Get the young Drusilla out there and watch her kick some ass Fashion Week, yo!" At the very least, have her do some print work. It think she'd be the slayer.

310 - The Young Hotness

This fresh-faced beauty was a favorite, I think, of the judges. I couldn't hear the entire conversation but we talked with her for a long time (comparatively). She had a different, more exotic, look, and a beautiful magnetic smile. I could see her being used both for print and the runway. She seemed easy to get along with, and very relaxed compared to most of the people we saw. And seriously cute as a button!

313 - Mr. Swagger

You need to see this one in person. Seriously, this young man had some major SWAGGER in his step! He walked like a man, and he had some nice pictures to back it up. He had a beautiful smile, he knew he was good looking, and he didn't let it go to his head. When I say that confidence makes a HUGE difference, this guy is what I was talking about! Not to mention the fact that he had a book that was just... well, drool worthy. There was this one black and white picture of him in a wife beater and jeans... gorgeous. I want him to cut his bags shorter, though. Just because. Nice guy too!

314 - Ms. Local Beauty

We got people from all over! But this girl, I'm pretty sure was local. She  wasn't as tall as many of the other models, but she took great pictures and was quite pleasant. She was the girl next door (literally for someone around here I'm sure) and I hope she makes it into the shows or some of the print publications. She'd be great for that. I'm also pretty sure she's the one who turned around and we all collectively said "I want that butt!" But I can't remember for certain - we saw a lot of butts that day!

318 - Future Supermodel

There was something about this girl. She just sparkled (just like her glittery pumps)! Yes, she probably needs more practice on in her heels but that's ok. There's an "IT" factor about this young (really young) girl! You want to say "come back in a year please!!!" And at the same time, you don't want to let her go because she could be BIG! And you know it. But she's at that awkward stage where we hope she can clean her skin up a little bit, get used to the heels and she would KILL IT!!! Loved her. Just loved!

319 - Fashion Heroine

Yeah, this girl's been there done that. She rattled off her list of shows from New York Fashion Week this past season. You know she can handle what you toss at her. Plus her book had a picture of her holding a gun like she was a bad-ass action heroine. But she didn't really seem to let it go to her head. She was very down to earth. Come on people! Let her work!

320 - Ethereal Beauty

I really loved this girl! It's hard for me not to include her in here. We were divided on her because she's so skinny. It's probably her body type, I really can't hypothesize. But I hope that we'll see her back but as a 2-4, not a 0-2. Being too skinny, it's also hard for designers to get their clothing to stay on (they have to do all sorts of stuff, pin it in funny places, etc). So yes, there is most definitely such a thing as too skinny. And this gorgeous young woman may be it right now.  She has some real beauty there and talent I'll never even hope to have. I keep remembering her - and that means something to me.  I really hope we see her again.

321 - A Classy Kind of Sassy

Here's the interesting thing - this model is also a designer! And you better believe it when she got out there in front of us she was working it! She had more personality in her walk than anyone else we saw. I hope that they find room for her in one of the shows because she will be a real treat to watch strut her stuff down the catwalk! And, not to mention I think it's pretty difficult for her to take a BAD picture. Come on. She's way too gorgeous.

322 - Runway Slayer

I don't think of this girl as a conventional beauty, and that works in her favor. She's completely memorable. And, as I recall, we all very much enjoyed her walk. She stood out - and not just because she's over six feet tall (seriously, she's a foot taller than me).  I wish I had a motion shot of her because she was pretty awesome!

326 - "Wow You're Tall And Built" Guy

I think one of my fellow panelists was very happy to see this man arrive in our line up. Good looking and can you see those muscles through that shirt??? Super tall at 6' 4". What's not to love?

327 - Mr. Unexpected

Here's someone I wasn't sure about. He was quiet, very well mannered, had a nice walk. I wasn't sure there was anything "special" at the time, but you know what? I remember him in a positive way. He has such striking features, he's pretty unforgettable. I don't think he had that much experience, and I remember him being one of the shorter guys we interviewed. But you know what? I bet he could get trained up really fast!

329 - Echos of Jensen Ackles

If you've been reading my blog long enough you know I have a thing for Jensen Ackles. So when this former Abercrombie and Fitch shirtless model (oh yes he was) showed up I wanted to pack him up in my purse and truck him home. No, Styrch! You're too old! Seriously, though... super nice guy, knows what he's doing. Put him in your show and I'll show up! I  promise! I wonder if he's as handy with Colt as Mr. Dean Winchester...

338 - "The Dog Guy"

So, while things were wrapping up this guy totally walked by with his dog. Several of us... our heads just turned and followed him, walking this little dog. We yelled poor Paige down and made her run to grab him, made him fill out a form and stick on a number. And you know what? I think he'll get the job. Poor guy walked that runway with the same confidence as he walked his dog and that's exactly perfect. Yay us, scouting from our seats!

340 - Your Gorgeous! Please don't smile quite yet!

Lastly, here was this gorgeous beauty. And I truly mean BEAUTY! She's stunning. She even has a beautiful smile regardless of her braces. But in some of her pictures, that's all we could see. Yes, she'll kill it on the catwalk and those wires come off this fall I believe. But we were all wishing for an airbrush touch up on those braces. Other than that she's perfect. And I have no doubt in my mind that someone will book her for this event. It would be ridiculous not to because she's go the goods.

And there you have it! My favorite models of Dayton Fashion Week Casting Call. My opinion absolutely doesn't count, and if you were left off this list that doesn't mean you weren't good or weren't memorable. These models were just the ones that got a little "check" next to their number on my list that I used in order to remember the "Yes, please! No doubt in my mind!" people. There were MANY others... and thank you all for coming out. I'm sure we'll be seeing you soon!

All photographs belong to Lamar Pacley of Shutter Eye Photography. Thank you for allowing me the use of your images in this post as well as for educating me during the Casting about what works as a print model. You were extremely helpful!

Quest for My Pretty - Weight Loss Report

Maya and I post Turbo Kick Class Last Week
I'm bragging about my girl - she's so awesome!
I'm so excited! Last week my girl Maya took her Turbo Kick certification class. This past weekend my other friend Melissa took hers. Turbo is taking over! I love it! Maybe it already took over and we're just late to the party, but it feels like the start of something fun!

But that's beside the point. The BETTER point is that my April Challenge Group just finished up Week 2! That means Weigh-in Time! Last week, collectively us 6 ladies lost around 12 lbs. It was pretty sweet! Because so many of us had such huge losses last week I think we'll continue but probably not as much. I know that is the case for myself. But regardless, I did AWESOME:

Weight: 166.8 lbs (-2.8 lbs)

I was super successful last week in getting 10,000 steps in every day. No joke! Saturday night, when I arrived home at 11:30 pm, I even grabbed my husband and we walked an extra 1.1 miles around our neighborhood just so I could finish out my day with steps. So fun and awesome!

This week I plan to try to get some extra sleep. I need to set a bedtime on 10:30 pm. I think if I do this I'll get enough sleep to wake up early and get my workout in. You see, I have this habit of reading until I fall asleep - which is about an hour after I actually get into bed. Horrible sleep hygiene, but that's what it is. Wish me luck!

How did you do this week?

Lessons Learned: Dayton Fashion Week Casting Call

Yesterday, I had the incredible privilege of being asked to be a panelist at Dayton Fashion Week's last casting call. Myself, Junda Morris-Kennedy, Caressa Brown (Junda's right hand girl), Tegan King (jewelry designer of Temiki Designs), Justin Scissorhands (makeup artist) and Amy Longo (Yong contemporary designer) were also on the panel. I believe I was first to arrive on the scene. I promptly ran into Paige (graphic designer and DFW Volunteer), and things began to unfold from there.

Update: Dayton Fashion Week Model Casting Call Details

I'm sure you've seen me mention on Facebook and on this blog that I'm going to be a panelist on for the Model Casting Call for Dayton Fashion Week this Saturday. I'm totally honored to be asked - never though this would ever happen in a million years! But you know that. What you might not know are the details. So local models, READ THIS:

Dayton Fashion Week Model Casting Details
This is exciting because Dayton Fashion Week is looking for all races, shapes, sizes... there's probably something for everyone here, but I do have some specifics things I know we'll be on the lookout for:
  • AT LEAST 15 YEARS OLD AND UP - That's the hard core line right there.
  • TALL PEOPLE  - 5' 8" and up!!! You must be at least that tall to ride this ride, folks. That may not be tall to you, but it is to this short girl.  And there is at least one designer who only wants 5' 10" and up. So if you're tall, come on down!
  • MALE MODELS - There is a serious lack of them right now. So if you know some great guys, bring them!
  • PLUS SIZE MODELS - Also in serious need. There's one designer who wants up to size 20 so get your "fiercely real" selves on over to the Greene! (I can't believe I just used "fiercely real". Thank you Tyra Banks).
Overall, they'll (we'll?) be looking for around 45 additional models. You'll have approximately 2 minutes with us, so let your personality show!

Now that you know if we're looking for YOU, you need to know where to go:

Day: Saturday, April 28.
Time: You MUST be registered by 1 PM to be seen!
Location: The Greene Town Center, Town Square

There. I think that's everything. Stay glued to Dayton Fashion Week's Facebook Page for further updates. I'll try to keep any additional information I hear on my Facebook page as well. The forecast at this point is expected to be cold and wet. I'll be out there all day. Wish me luck staying warm and dry and I hope I get to see you Saturday!

Quest for My Pretty - Weight Loss Report

Hello everyone!

I'm still on a bit of a blogging break, but I wanted to update you on the progress I am having with my Challenge Group that I am running. I don't yet entirely know how my group members are doing, but I know how *I* as their leader am doing. For the group I've been posting every day with tips, encouragement, and daily check-in accountability. I want my 5 participants to succeed too! For myself, the last week I've been doing Week 1 of Les Mills PUMP workouts, along with Turbo Kick teaching. I've also been working very hard to get 10000 steps in a day. I've been sticking to the meal plan within Les Mills PUMP to the best of my abilities and yes - there has been a change. My starting weight was 172.8 lbs (GASP! How did I ever get here again???). I'm happy to say that is no longer where I am...

Weight: 169.2 (-3.6 lbs)

Oh my gosh! One week of focused food and exercise! Can you believe it??? I almost don't myself. It just goes to show me how far off base I've been. My "eyeballing" method was totally screwed up. 4 oz of chicken is smaller than I was estimating for example. So for me, this loss is really about eating well. I've been doing 5 meals a day at 300 calories each. I'm supposed to be having 2 100 calorie snacks due to my weight, but I never seem to get those in for a total of 1700 calories. Incidentally, I will be doing another Challenge Group in May. If you are interested in participating, please send me a message. I encourage you to contact me on Facebook. Because I know it's been all about eating I'm going to leave you today with some FOOD Porn from my meals this week:

Popcorn Bowl! My favorite snack!!!
Sashimi - Easiest Eat Out meal EVER!
Healthy Cereal Breakfast (and Yummy)
Yes, I'm still the Stir Fry Queen! Just better...
Apparently, you can make Pancakes out of Shakeology too

Anyway, have a great week! I'll hopefully be back up to full speed soon. Just know that right now I appreciate your understanding!

Taking a Break - I need to "regroup".

I sat down today and did some thinking.  I am not happy and I'm stressed out. Here are the things on my plate right now on a regular basis (in rough order of priority):
  • My health and happiness - I can't do anything for anyone else unless I take care of myself. Reality is that I just went off a BUNCH of medicines (yay), but I need to make sure I stay healthy and I need to get back on track with my weight.
  • My family and my home life - My husband is super stressed out because of work. That carries over to me because I generally pick up a portion of my stresses from him.
  • I have a Full Time Job - I love my job. I've acquired a few projects lately that is requiring time commitment on my part to get organized. And I want to do work at work, and home stuff at home - I have too much cross over right now since EVERYTHING I do is on the computer.
  • I have a Side Job - My Beachbody business is important to me. I love helping others if I can. The extra cash doesn't hurt either.
  • I am also a Fitness Instructor - Turbo Kick actually takes quite a bit of my time. I have to learn the routines, I have to organize the class, I have to teach. And I want to do more of this.
  • I have a Beauty/Fashion blog - more and more this blog seems to be less devoted to the things it started out being about: nail polish and makeup. I've strayed into Weight loss (which has helped me quite a bit), and I've begun to ADORE fashion. But I miss my blog being a hobby rather than an obligation. I need to find the FUN in this blog again.
  • I have a TON of other hobbies I want to do - Obviously I write, I knit, I paint, I have started learning to cook and am enjoying it... the list goes on. But I can't do everything. And I can't REPORT on everything. It takes too much time.
Clearly I need to focus...

So what do I want to focus on RIGHT NOW
My ladies in my Fitness Challenge Group. I have 5 lovely ladies and I want to help them reach their goals. Doing so I believe will help me reconnect with my original fitness goals as well. This blog isn't doing that for me right now. And I want to be there for these people who have put their faith in me to help them with what they need. For the next couple of weeks, until this group gets really going and under control, I need to have my free time devoted to them rather than nail polish, makeup and fashion. We're going to kill this Fitnesss Challenge, and come out better on the other end. I truly believe that. I need to be the example.

I have some commitments in terms of this blog I have left of fullfill They will not be forgotten or abandoned. But I want to be organized to do these right and I don't want my attention divided. Specifically these commitments are:
  • Penhaligon's Fragrance Reviews - Oh I have some wonderful scents to tell you about - samples that were sent to me. But I need to get my muse going again.
  • Zoya's Summer Collection - I've got yet, yes I do. But I want to give it to you in a post full of the entire collection and not just a polish at a time.
  • Dayton Fashion Week -  I'm going to be a panelist for their upcoming model castings. I'm super excited about. And it will be AWESOME for the blog, I'm sure. But I really need to get organized for this one since it's something I've never done before. Can you believe I was asked? I can't.
  • (Possible) Althea Harper News - I've been talking with my favorite designer. We have some things cooking together that I hope actually work out. I can't let her down - she's become one of my peeps!
  • (Possible) GlassesUSA.com review - how cool is that? It's not a done deal, but I'm working on it. After all, glasses are a part of my every day life. I'm sure the same is for some of you. This could be a fun review. And I may be able to get you a discount code for it. So I want to make it happen.
See what I did there? I made a To-do list.

So, I won't be gone forever. How could I? I'll still be painting my nails after all. I just need to shift a bit of my focus. And I need to find the "Happy" in blogging again. I don't want to write halfheartedly.

Let me take a break. Let me devote the next couple of weeks to my Fitness Group. And let me get organized. I will be back, and hopefully a better blogger for it. If you're hear when I return, thank you. If you're not, well, then that's ok too but I'll miss you.

Pretty Pictures from the Bellagio

Bellagio Conservatory April 2012

You know I love pictures of flowers. Here are some I snapped at the Bellagio in Las Vegas during my trip last week. No words, no editing, no nothing... just flowers. Enjoy!

I lied - a few words: The above picture was made of flowers depicting a Monet painting that was also on display at the Gallery of Fine Art during my stay.

It is so rare...

... For me to feel the need to remove my nail polish due purely to growth.

This is day 10 of my Shellac Mani from Lisa at The Beaute Box, in Dayton. Wow!

Quest for My Pretty - Changes to this report

Hello lovelies!

I know you're expecting a weight loss update. Well, you're not going to get one today. I will be changing my weigh in days to Mondays to coincide with a new Fitness Accountability group I am leading on Facebook. There are five of us, and I want to make sure I'm in sync with them. So you'll be getting my Weight Loss Reports on a different day. Incidentally, the group runs for 30 days. I'll be starting a new one in May if you want to join in.

In other news I had an interesting accomplishment this past week. I spent a very extended weekend with Vegas. Without taking the monorail or bus, just walking from place to place, I managed to walk over 20,000 steps in one day! That's twice as many as my normal goal. Other days I had over 15,000 steps. Moreover it was simple. Nearly every day I slept in, or took a nap, or laid by the pool (yes I actually went out in my DKNY swimsuit I purchased last year - no I don't have a photo). But the sheer amount of walking I did around those incredible casino and resorts... I had no idea! I have to find ways of replicating my activity here in Dayton where walking feels like such a chore.

On the downside, I did not make my Push-up goal. I just didn't. I failed. I think I should start over with a new goal. Maybe add it to my 30 day challenge coming up.

China Glaze Prismatic Collection - Liquid Crystal and Ray-diant

How about some glitters?
China Glaze Ray-diant

China Glaze Liquid Crystal

I have to admit I've really been enjoying China Glaze lately. It's almost like they keep trying to out-do themselves. It feels like not too long ago we had glitters with the Eye Candy collection. And here they are again, but with a slightly different mix of glitter.

Colors
When I first heard the name of this collection I thought for sure they'd be holographic. It turns out they are really glitter combinations in different semi-transparent bases. Liquid Crystal's base is blue, and Ray-diant is somewhat yellow-gold though the color doesn't show up that way with my flash. The glitter particles seem to be the same combination for both polishes but the bases hide different things. I could be mistaken, however.

Application
Two coats over Qtica Nail Growth Stimulator and topped with Seche Vite. It looks in the picture like Ray-diant needs a third coat but on the nails but in person it doesn't seem to.

Wear
Actually, both polishes chipped very quickly on me for  glitters. I usually get really good wear from glitters but I had big chunks falling off the next day.

Bottom Line
They're pretty, and they actually are fun to wear together. But I don't honestly think you're missing much. Slight edge to Liquid Crystal between these two. I got compliments on them when they were on my toes.

Disclaimer
This polish was  furnished to me by PR for review purposes.  I do not sell China Glaze products nor am I affiliated with China Glaze in any way.
